Independent, Dependent and Control Variables Scientific Method
What are the steps for the scientific method?
1. Question/Problem 2. Gather information/Research 3. State a hypothesis 4. Design an experiment: control group and experimental group with independent and dependent variable. 5. Perform experiment and gather data. 6. Analyze data and form a conclusion.
Control Group
Not receiving the independent variable but has everything else the same as the experimental group.
Independent Variable
is the ONE thing that changes in an experiment (what is being tested, the "if" part of the hypothesis)
Hypothesis
is the answer to the question/problem that uses the, "if _____ then _________" statement.
dependent Variable
is what is being measured in the experiment ( the "then" part of the hypothesis)
Experimental Group
the group that contains the independent variable
