What is a how-to-essay?
Short, focused pieces of expository writing that explains how to do or make something.
Thesis Statement
The thesis statement should be first in paragraph, last in paragraph, or implied throughout the paragraph. Ex. I would like to change the world by improving the poverty situation in our world, alleviating crime, and helping the homeless.
How does an expository writing differ from narrative and argumentative essays?
-Expository writing(EW) doesn't tell a story. -EW does not persuade a reader but only gives facts and reasons. -EW can also give the steps of a process.
How should paragraphs in an expository essay be written?
-Introduction of an expository writing should include the main idea and what the essay is about. -The 3 main reasons supporting this main idea should also be included in the intro. -Paragraph 2 should introduce the reason and give details to support the 2nd reason. -Paragraph 3 should introduce the reason and give details to support the 3rd reason. -Paragraph 4 should introduce the reason and give details to support the 4th reason. -The conclusion should restate all the reasons.
Definition of terms
-Thesis statement: The main idea of the whole essay (tri-part). -Transition words: Words such as first, second, as a result, which makes transitions easy in the essay. -Main idea: Each paragraph should have a main point or idea. -Supporting details: details support the main ideas.
