Personal strategies

- dont allow people to intimidate you or make you feel insecure without your permission. Stand up against them and be assertive. -an individual has the power to decide how we are going to feel about any situation. If you decide not to play the game, then you don't ever need to feel intimidated again.

Consequences for those who are being intimidated(victim)

-fearful -isolated, lack of support, lonely -angry and sad -resentful of others not standing up for them -revengeful -afraid -embarrassed

Consequences for those who intimidate others

-insecure and unsure about how to relate to others lonely -fearful that others will hurt them so they hurt others first -have low self confidence -have trouble keeping and maintaining friends.

Societal strategies

-national education guidelines; board of trustees must provide a safe physical and emotional environment for students. -NZ police; if someone is threatening or intimidating you can make a complaint to the Police -Employment law; employees are entitled to a safe working environment -counselling services for those affected by intimidation

Interpersonal strategies

-when communicating with others, maintain eye contact and be confident to show that you are not afraid of them. -support those who are being intimidated so that they dont feel alone -conflict resolution, problem solving and negotiation -stand up for those who are being intimidated

consequences on bystanders

-worried it could happen to them -angry at themselves for not standing up for the person being intimidated -glad the intimidation is not directed at them -embarrassed that they are standing by not doing anything

Personal influencing factors

Attitudes are what people think-an opinion or feeling about something, which can be the reason that people behave in a certain way, values and beliefs,thoughts and feelings

Societal influencing factors

Culture of NZ society(of a school, workplace or community etc)(certain beliefs are held by people that allow the behavior such as intimidation

Intimidation behaviors and situations

Threatening somebody to do something they don't want to do, talking loudly/aggressively to someone, glaring at someone constantly,verbally abusing someone by yelling an screaming at them,getting in someone's personal space in a menacing way

Interpersonal influencing factors

lack of ability to communicate appropriately and effectively, lack of social support(victim), trying to gain power over people (person intimidating). There is a power imbalance between the person who is trying to intimidate and the person being intimidated.
