Advertising engages in manipulation because they want to have a bigger influence over the public. Sometimes even if the intention is well-meaning, it still could have a negative impact.

Manipulating the public by making them believe that there is a great demand for the product. They also hire random people who would attest on the efficiency of the product

This is a form of media manipulation because the public can be influenced to patronize a product endorsed by public icon, or someone popular or well-respected.

Fearmongering

This type of media manipulation uses fear to influence people's opinion and action

Propaganda

an advertising firm can release a commercial paid by a political candidate to destroy the image of a rival politician.
