What are the two types of endocytosis?

Pinocytosis - engulfing liquids Phagocytosis - engulfing solids

Endocytosis

"Cell Eating" membrane folds around large food item - uses energy, doesnt need protein, moves high to low, takes in big molecules

Exocytosis

"Cell Puking" method of releasing large items or large amounts of things out of cell - needs energy doesnt need protein, moved high to low, can get rid of substrate

Diffusion

Natural movement of molecukes from high concentration areas with low concentration- doesn't use energy, doesnt need a protein, moved things without energy and spreads thruout cell

Hypotonic Solution

Concentration of water is greater inside than outside of the cell, water moves out- cell swells or bursts

Hypertonic Solution

Concentration of water is greater outside than inside of the cell, water moves in - can explode (cell shrinkage)

Osmosis

The movement of water thru a semi-permeable membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration without energy but needs a protein

Active Transport

Used energy, needs protein, moved low to high, stores materials

Facilitated Diffusion

Uses energy, doesnt need protein, moves high to low, gets substrates across molecule without energy

Isotonic Solution

Water is the same
