-Anything that varies or changes from one instance to another; can exhibit differences in value, usually in magnitude or strength, or in direction. -Example Hypothesis: Customer satisfaction is positively related to purchase intentions. -What are the variables in the hypothesis? Q-Sort Scales

-Comparative scale to rank large sets of items -Sort items into groups based on some criteria -Quota size for each group may be determined by researcher resulting in normal distribution curve -Ordinal data is produced by this technique

-Concepts measured with multiple variables.

Correspondence rule:

-Indicate the way that a certain value on a scale corresponds to some true value of a concept. EX: Circle 1-3 but it will actually count as a 5

Disadvantages of Rank-Order Scales
