Since this murder it caused many people to view Altamont as the event that marked the end of the hippie era. Controversy - Raised question of rock as art in a different way than Beatles (they pushed what was acceptable/boundaries); Billboard "I'm 'Black and Blue' from the Rolling Stones-and I love it!" with nearly naked woman w/ bruises; some people think they might have "pushed it" too far sometimes; Racist, sexist, obscene? Or is it art? Combination? some say that they copied the beatles.
