The Dawes Act

The Dawes Act of 1887 (also known as the General Allotment Act or the Dawes Severalty Act of 1887),[1][2] adopted by Congress in 1887, authorized the President of the United States to survey Indian tribal land and divide it into allotments for individual Indians. Dawes Act was amended in 1891 and again in 1906 by the Burke Act.

Trail of Tears

The Trail of Tears was the forced relocation of thr Cherokee from Georgia to Oklahoma in 1838 during which thousands died from starvation and exposure .

Assimilation

The process whereby a minority group gradually adopts the customs and attitudes of the prevailing culture.
