Hindu Arabic numerals

a positional decimal numeral system, is the most common system for the symbolic representation of numbers in the world. It was invented between the 1st and 4th centuries by Indian mathematicians.

ionic greek numeration system

a system of representing numbers using the letters of the Greek alphabet. These alphabetic numerals are also known by names Ionic or Ionian numerals, Milesian numerals, and Alexandrian numerals.

expanded form

a way to write numbers by adding the value of its digits. Example: 1,000 + 900 + 50 + 4 = 1,954.

system of numeration

a writing system for expressing numbers; that is, a mathematical notation for representing numbers of a given set, using digits or other symbols in a consistent manner.

an arithmetical value, expressed by a word, symbol, or figure, representing a particular quantity and used in counting and making calculations and for showing order in a series or for identification.

any of the numerals from 0 to 9, especially when forming part of a number.

traditional Chinese numeration system

has characters that correspond to the numbers zero to nine. Unlike the number system we are used to, the Chinese system also has special characters to represent ten, a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand, as well as other multiples of ten.

is a numeral system with sixty as its base. It originated with the ancient Sumerians in the 3rd millennium BC, was passed down to the ancient Babylonians,

Mayan numerations system

is a vigesimal (base-twenty) positional numeral system used by the Pre-Columbian Maya civilization.

exponential notations

lets you move the decimal point in a number. It simplifies numbers by getting rid of zeros, and making math easier. Getting rid of zeros helps with big 100,000,000 and small 0.000,000,001 numbers

binary

relating to, using, or expressed in a system of numerical notation that has 2 rather than 10 as a base.

hexadecimal system

s a positional numeral system with a radix, or base, of 16. It uses sixteen distinct symbols, most often the symbols 0-9 to represent values zero to nine, and A, B, C, D, E, F (or alternatively a, b, c, d, e, f) to represent values ten to fifteen.

Egyptian numeration system

s used in Ancient Egypt around 3000 BC until the early first millennium AD. It was a system of numeration based on the scale of ten, often rounded off to the higher power, written in hieroglyphs, but they had no concept of a place-valued system such as the decimal system is.

octal system

the base-8 number system, and uses the digits 0 to 7. Octal numerals can be made from binary numerals by grouping consecutive binary digits into groups of three

place value

the numerical value that a digit has by virtue of its position in a number.

Babylonian numeration system

used a sexagesimal (base-60) positional numeral system inherited from either the Sumerian or the Eblaite civilizations.
