he said that he had a sleepover with Cassio and he confessed his love for Desdemona in his sleep. He said he saw Cassio wipe his beard with Desdemona's handkerchief the one that Othello gave her.

What is Othello's response to Desdemona as she leaves? What literary device is used here?

"I love thee and when i love thee not, chaos is come again. This is foreshadowing because we know that he plans on killing Desdemona.

Othello has a two-line speech when he thinks he is alone, so it's almost a soliloquy. What does it tell us about the state of his mind?

"Why did I marry, this honest creature knows much more than he unfolds." Othello is already regretting marrying Desdemona. All Iago had to do was bring up this conversation to convince Othello.

Bianca- Cassio gave it to her.

who said " For thy solicitor shall rather die than give thy cause away" and what literary device is used?

Desdemona- Foreshadowing Desdemona would rather die than to stop talking about getting Cassio's job back

What thing did Emilia find and give to Iago? What did Iago intend to do with it?

Emilia found a handkerchief that Desdemona dropped and Iago plans to plant it in Cassio's room to make it look like Desdemona gave it to Cassio.

When Desdemona leaves, Othello's love is apparently as solid as it can be. Yet soon after Othello is in "misery," and in his next speech he is talking about seeing proof (and therefore is already suspicious). What has happened (and what has Iago done) to move him from love to a choice between "love or jealousy"?

First, Iago says that he is a very jealous person, so Othello shouldn't listen to his thoughts because they will influence him negatively. Othello asks repeatedly for Iago to tell him, and iago tells him to watch over Desdemona and Cassio with their behaviors toward each other. othello later asks himself " why he married"

What new level has othello reached?

He starts calling Desdemona names and calling her a thing. He wants to kill her and wants Iago to kill Cassio.

What is ironic about Othello's kneeling to Iago?

He's kneeling like he's lower class than him but he's higher.

Desdemona will keep asking Othello for Cassio's rank back

How will Desdemona get Othello to restore Cassio's place to him?

who said " o beware, my lord of jealousy! It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on." and what does this mean ?

Iago - the green-eyed monster is jealousy

Read Othello's soliloquy carefully? How much have Iago's suggestions about Desdemona's "nature" worked on Othello?

Iago's suggestion swayed Othello to think that desdemona is a piece of property. Iago also persuaded Othello that because of his race, desdemona would prefer white men over him.

Why didn't Iago simply tell Othello right away that Desdemona and Cassio were having an affair?

It would be more effective and very evil. He didn't want it to look like he was lying.

What did Othello decide and command at the end of Scene III?

Kill Cassio and Desdemona and have Iago as the new lieutenant ( Desdemona will be killed by Othello )

examples of rhetoric and explain:

Logos- Desdemona deceived her father. She lied once she might lie again Ethos- Iago tries to convince Othello that Desdemona is cheating on him with Cassio by spreading and telling lies. Pathos- Iago tries to persuade people that his lies are the truth

who said "Why did I marry, this honest creature knows much more than she unfolds." and what does this mean?

Othello - Othello is already regretting marrying Desdemona. ( Almost soliloquy he trusts Iago)

Yet how convinced has Othello become by all this "proof"?

Othello is convinced that he has lost Desdemona's love, he is filled with jealousy. He wants to kill Desdemona.

who said " Give me your hand, This hand is moist my lady" and what does this mean?

Othello-Accusing her of lying and that's why she's sweating

who said " But I do love thee, And when I love thee not, chaos is come again" and what literary device is used?

Othello-Foreshadowing that when they fall out of love something bad is going to happen, chaos will come.

With this suggestion planted, what "bloody business" does Othello engage Iago in?

That Iago will kill Cassio in three days and Othello will kill Desdemona.

Iago says that Cassio looked very guilty, and Othello doesn't think anything is wrong so he ignores the comment. "Was that Cassio that snuck away so guilty like. "

What responses do Iago and Othello have to seeing Cassio leave Desdemona?
