Reverse Trendelenburg

Entire bed is tiled with the foot of the bed lower than the head of the bed. Promotes gastric emptying and prevents esophageal reflux.

Trendelenburg

Entire bed is tilted with head of the bed lower than the foot of the bed. Position facilitads postural drainage and venous return.

High Fowler's

Oatient lies supine withy the head of the bed elevated 60-90 degrees Position promotes lung expansion by lowering the diaphram and helps relieve severe dyspnea. Also prevents aspiration during meals.

Fowler's

Patiebt lies supine with head of the bed elevated 45-60 degrees. Useful during NG tube insertion and suctioning. Allows chest expansion and fentilation and better dependent drainage after abdominal surgeries.

Sims or Simi-Prone Position

Patient is pn their side halfway between lateral and prone positions with weight on anterior ileim, humorus, and clavical. Lower arm is behind him while upper arm is in front. (Very specific rest of definition) **** Comfortable sleeing position for many and promotes oral drainage.

Modified Trendelenburg

Patient is flat with legs above the level of his heart. Helps prevent and treat hypovolemia and facilitaes venous return.

Supine/Dorsal recumbent

Patient lies on back with head and sholders elevated on a pillow and forearms on pillows or at his side. A foot support prevents foot drop and maintains proper slignment.

Lateral or side lying position

Patient lies on side with most of his weight on the dependent hip and shoulder and atms in flexion in front of his body. Pillow under head anc neck, upper arms, legs, and thighs yo maintain good body alignment. Good sleeping position, but patient needs turning regularly yo prevent pressure ulcurs. 30 degree lateral position is essential for clients at risk for pressure ulcurs.

Semi-Fowlers

Patient lies supine w/ the head of the bed elevated 15-45 degrees (usually 30) Prevents regurgitation of enternal feedings & aspirations by clients who have difficulty swallowing. Promotes lung expansion for clients who have dyspnea or are on vents.

Prone Position

Payient lies flay on stomavh and chest with heaf to one side andnbavk in correct alignment. Promotes drainage from mouth after throat or oral surgery. Inhibits chest expansion. SHORT TERM USE ONLY!!! Helps prevent hip flexion contractures following a lower extremity amputation.

Orthopenic position

Payient sits in bed or at beside with pillow on the overbed table. Pollow id actoss the payients lap and he tests his atms on the table. Allows chest expenaskon and is expecially beneficial for clients who have COPD
