a schema places behavior into categories in the mind. this contributes to prejudice because it may lead to inaccurately grouping someone with others who are dissimilar to them, and therefore making assumptions about that person because of the group they have been put into in one's mind.

self-fulfilling prophecy

a self-fulfilling prophecy is an expectation that causes you to act in ways that make that expectation come true. this contributes to prejudice because those expecting to be treated with prejudice may feel as if they're being treated with prejudice even if that is not the case

stereotype

a stereotype is a generalized belief about a group of people. stereotyping contributes to the phenomenon of prejudice because these beliefs lead to unreasonable judgments of every member of that group.

projection

projection is mentally placing your own faults on someone else. this contributes to prejudice because one may create a false belief that someone else possesses a negative characteristic because in reality they possess it themselves.

fundamental attribution error

the fundamental attribution error is the tendency for observers to underestimate the impact of the situation and to overestimate the impact of personal disposition. this contributes to prejudice because it can cause us to create false beliefs about someone's personality and values based off of how they acted in one situation, without considering the situational factors that contributed to their behavior.
