Multiculturalism

Cultural Pluralism

Term used when smaller groups within a larger society maintain their unique cultural identities, values, and practices. They are accepted by the wider culture provided they are consistent with the laws and values of the larger society

Dominant Culture

The group within a multicultural society whose traditions, values, and beliefs are held to be normative

Cultural Assimilation

The interpenetration and fusion of ethnic minorities into the dominant culture
