"Spend from the wealth that "we" gave you" "Spend from what you have "earned".. you have to EARN. It halal way I won't just give it to you! Profound. We need to do our part to get Allah's qadr is in these two verses. Shaitan promises poverty and corrupt u. 263- literalism vs spirituality: yes it's important to give charity a kind word, a forgiving gesture is better than giving charity that is followed by irritation/arrogance/PR stunt. SPIRIT of charity is more important!
Juz2- spirit over law!
Change in direction of Kaaba -Jerusalem to Makkah For 13 years muslim faced kibla of Jews & Christian Prophet (saw) wanted to face kibla of Ibrahim. The announcement made islam independence from Jews/Christian roots. Jesus followed by prophet mohammad Originally there was Makkah kibla then Issac and yakoob built the jeresulem kibla (Ibraheem father of Isaac father of yakoob). Verse 77- do not just follow the law and get tied up in East vs west, look at purpose. True righteousness is not just in following letter of the law, but something BEYOND it! Ultra literalism is not good. Let's not loose religion in the law. Law came to serve us, we did not come to serve the law. Allah is saying don't become obsessed with where is Kaaba.
Juz 3- imran - nature of Jesus Christ
Christian believe Jesus was manifestation of God. Divinity: , god, father, son. Miracle of birth. Versus Islam: if u think Jesus being born without father is divinity what about Adam?! Allah says neither of them are divine. Quran uses intellectual arguments. Verse 44: all of this from knowledge of the unseen. Allah is saying that all knowledge Muhammad has is from him since bible etc were all in Hebrew and not translated until years later. An illiterate shepherd knowing all this was also a miracle. Verse 36: the male is not like the female. Gender is a biological reality. Gender role is different & has nothing to do with status in eyes of a God. Paths to jannah r equal. Zakariya was prophet of Allah who was inspired by piety of maryam and made dua to bless him with child too.
Juz 7- sharab al-Arafat's (stories of 5 prophets now verse 59 after)
Common theme constant struggle between good/evil. Plus moral message 59: NOAH 65: hud 73: saleh 80: Luther - to men- do not approach men with lust 85: shoaib In light of covid-19? Meant as a mercy on us to wakeup 96: do people have authority to feel safe from planning of Allah! 100: those who inherit land after previous people, can they not see the truth. If we willed we could strike for sins... 104-171- story of musa, phairon and isralaities Allah's help comes from mysterious sources. Also talks about Followers of the prophet who are complaining..#29. Allah does not destroy a qaum without giving chances.. Adam, musa, Muhammad (saw) spike firectly with Allah - with a veil . Asking for forgiveness with arrogance "Allah will forgive me" lazy paradigm not doing anything 75/76: Allah bless with knowledge but did not benefit him and became arrogant. No spirituality! 43: anger and hatred will be removed before they enter jannah. It is possible that 2 people don't get along but both are in jannah. When u have ill well in ur heart, it takes away from Jannah as it's not accepted there... 199 summary of Islam!: Tolerant and merciful Command that which is good Turn away from the ignorant 201: reminds that shaitan will whisper. Don't feel bad for having bad thought. Recognize and kick it out of ur mind. Turn to Allah for refuge! Final msg: what will be ur weapon to maintain ur sanity. 205: remember ur lord, zikr, humbly & fearfully. Don't neglect Allah.
Juz 6- An'am -Verse 52 sabab nazool
Concept: science of the reason why verse is revealed, sabab nazool. Branch of knowledge essential to Quran. Without it is misunderstood. "And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account. So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers." Verse 52: commentary: sounds like verse is saying don't drive away people who don't believe in Allah.. but when U read context u understand that it's actually saying to drive those away who have egoes! Sr. Delegation of Quraish (nonmuslim of Makkah) approaches uncle of prophet (saw) Abu Talib said to prophet: They said you (prophet saw) associate with low people if you agree not to then they (Quraish) will believe. Allah revealed 52: verse changes the meaning. If you drive low people away, you will be unjust. Let others take care of their ego.. you are not responsible for them! History changes your paradigm.
Juz -3 verse 195 gender equity
Detail from Hadith and trimidhi Umme salama asked prophet "why only men are mentioned in the Quran"We also participated then why not?" Allah revealed 195 "I shall not cause deeds of men or women to waste both of u are from one another. I shall cause them to enter jannah " Just because responsibility differ DOES NOT mean that one is valued more than the other!
JUZ 2- bakarah (Ramadan)
Details of Ramadan Fasting is to attain Taqwa. Allah says again law is there but there are exemptions. "Allah wants to make things easy for you" Whenever there is genuine complexity law relaxes. 1. Ramadan is when "Quran" came down. 2. Then whoever is able to "fast" (Quran mentioned before fasting). Quran and Ramadan are linked together not fast and Ramadan - in order of priority. 3. DUA: If my servant ask about me "indeed I'm close"
Juz 8- Surah Al-Anfal 75 verses
Earliest of medina Surah after badr.. (1.5hr drive from Medina)what to do with the prisoners and left over war .. anfal is left over from the wars (horses, tents, armors etc) First major battle with Quraish during second year of Hijra during ramzan..for 13 yrs Muslims were persecuted and denied basic freedom.. prophet (saw) attacker mutiple times so they migrated to Medina & now attacking back the economic lines (caravans). Abu sufian was in charge of quraish caravan. 310 followers of prophet saw in badr vs. 1000 Quraish Ansar are medina Muslims.
Juz 6- an'am TEST is same, mechanism Is different
Everyone is being tested by different mechanism. Potential to pass exam is the same! He is testing you in al that he is given you!
Juz 10- Surah Hud
Hadith on this Surah: my hair has grown white because of Hud.. due to thinking/contemplation. Makkah Surah. Therefore, Tawheed, rasalah is mentioned. Surah Consoles prophet (saw) by sharing stories of previous prophets. Verse 12: Prophet (saw) is stressed out. Allah says your job is of a warner. Versa 52: hud is teaching his people to seek repentance. Astaghfar increases wealth & power! Ibrahim is 120 yrs old & told u will be a father after issac comes yaqoob Lut- verse 77 onward those who side with evil, even when they don't commit evil are guilty.. just like wife of lut .. Verse 86: Shoaib said don't defraud people . Whatever is halal is good for u. Don't consume haram .. Verse 88: shoaib to his people - leave a positive impact on others. I'm asking u to do good so WE are better people.
Juz1- Surah bakra
Story of dawood/David and his fight with Goliath/jalood: No matter how small your numbers/unprepared you are, if you have faith in Allah AND do your best, Allah will help u with victory. Eg:Goliath had armors but dawood had a sling shot, but because dawoid had Allah he got victory. You win against odds, it doesn't matter whose on the other side when you have Allah on urs!
Juz 1- Surah bakrah
Story of yaqoob: Lesson: What should be on ones mind? When Yaqoob was on death bed with his children around him and wanted to leave them with most important msg: "what will ur way of life/worship be"? Yaqoob died happy after listening they will follow Ibrahim/Isaac /islam. That was his worry, not their career etc.
Juz 3- ehle kitaab 113
There are people of ehle kitaab who r good and some aren't. If a person is non muslim he can be God conscious. Verse 19/83: islam is the right religion. 152: u were winning in badr, then you became 1) disunity 2) disobeying 3) weak faith that's why U lost uhud. But now I have to move on.. 139: optimism.. don't feel sad, if ur believers u can come over past. 144: Abu Bakr recited 1 hr after prophet saw death. Lot of life and death verses in Surah Imran "life and death is from Alan" etc... 109 middle of imran - you are the best nation produced for mankind.
Juz 13- Surah hijr /nahl
Those who reject the truth. Verse 14: If u will not believe in miracles around u nothing will help Verse 24:

About women. Equality. Gender role versus gender equality in Allah's eyes. Allah
Juz 6- An'am -majesty of Allah alone
14: He is the one who originated heaven & earth and deeds everyone 71: do you want me to invoke something other than Allah that cannot help us? 73: Allah has created heavens and the earth kunfayakun.
Juz3 -imran (soul/raising Jesus)
Allah takes the souls of those who are dead and those who have gone to sleep "I will cause you to Tawafa (long sleep) and raise you up to me".. meaning bring u back to life after sleep. Jesus is mentioned to be "raised up" If issa was dead there is no raising up. Meaning he never died and is still alive. Verse 31: example of Jesus is same as that of Adam. Adam kun fayakun & he was created.
Juz 11- Surah Yusuf
As a consolation to prophet (saw).
Juz 3- imran (200 verses)
Battle of uhud - setback not a clear victory Over 70 Sahabas lost Delegation came from najraan (large group of Christians) and stayed in masjid of prophet. First theological discussion happened that's why 1/2 of this Surah deals with Christianity. Who is imran? Maryam's dad! (Issa's mom). Maryam's khalu was prophet Zakariya Verse 31 If u claim to love God, follow me(Muhammad saw) Quran negates school of thought you ignore sunnah in 70 verses.
Juz 10- Surah Yunus & Surah Hud
Blessings of Allah and signs /majesty of Allah. Sun/moon is in perfect orbit Verse 12- man always remembers Allah at times of stress. Once Allah lifts the adversity, man forgets verse 16- Prophet (saw) says that he was not known for these types of revelations. Verse 38- challenge: bring one chapter like this and get help from whomever. Verse 57: beautiful description- Quran is not just for Muslims. Quran touches inner soul, cure of the heart, guidance and mercy. —-Quran is food for our soul —- Surah tells that there is high category of people called Walih. Verse 62: chosen by Allah. Those who believe, had consciousness of Allah. Good news in this world and next. (When you choose Allah, you become happy/content/ with a purpose!) Verse 98- people of Yunus when they believed, we gave them blessings in this world & the next. Last 5 verses of Surah Yunus summarizes religion and this Surah: 104- rasool Allah tell mankind if you are in doubt, any God you have taken who has not given u life why you worship him .. worship Him who will cause you to DIE! If Allah wants good for you, none can come in between. He is ghafoor & Raheem. If you want blessings, worship Allah.
Juz 9- Surah tawbah or albarah (to cut ties)
Late Medina Surah After tabook war Before hajj 9th year of Hijra. Message if Surah was to ALL of Arabia (including idol worshippers) Verse 5: kill them where you find them. It was an ultimatum for idol worshippers.. gave 4 months to them to leave or accept Islam. It was a military situation" where Muslims were reclaiming the land. The verse was never applied and no one was killed even then! Verse 6: and if anyone idol worshipers asks for protection then give protection. The end goal is pleasure of Allah, not this world. Battle of hunain mentioned by name (only 2 battles mentioned by name).romans did not show up. Trust should be in Allah, means are there. 75/77: If I was rich I would be so generous! Allah said some people in past were hypocritical like that and when Allah made them rich, they actually became rich they became stingy. 79: MOCKING OTHERS (ngo etc!) 111/112: Allah has asked their life, (2.5% Zakaat and prayer) to conform .. description of "believers" 92: we need to aim for highest! 107: there are those who want masjid for disunity & they only swear they want good but Allah testifies. Allah says don't go there. Verse 60: 8 categories of zakat: poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah . And Allah is Knowing and Wise. Most optimistic verse in Quran per scholars: 102: And [there are] others who have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed a righteous deed with another that was bad. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Juz 12- Al rad (the thunder)
Lightening can be fear for some but hope for a farmer. Makki Surah. Tawheed raslah akhrat. Evidence of Allah's existence: Sun & moon circulation. Spread out earth After seeing the evidences in this world how can u doubt akhrat is not possible Allah does not change status of people until they change themselves. Verse: People of intelligence who refkect & understand 13:19 13:23: enter jannah with righteous relatives (parents, children, spouses) wow 13:28 real pleasure those who believe find peace in remembrance of Allah. Memorize: Allahi ala bizikri Allahi tatmainnu alquloobu without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.
Juz 7- Surah Al-Araf (fight between good/evil)
Longest Makkan Surah. (206 verses) Iblees tribes can see us, we cannot see it. But we have Allah's help! Don't blame sin of ours to Allah! That's satanic. Iblees did this. Adam had ownership. 26-33: of the tactics of shaitan is to be immodest. Covering of taqwa is better than covering of clothes. 31: wear good clothes to masjid 32: enjoy everything that is halal is permissible for you, not excessive Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believe during the worldly life [but] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.
Juz1- Surah bakarah
Longest Surah of Quran. Summarizes quran. Hadith: Surah Bakarah &imran will be light on day of judgement. Helps with state of grief. Early revelation in medina after migrating from Makkah. Includes Ayatul Kursi and last revealed verse "you will return to your lord" Tells 5 pillars by name: salah, zakat, hajj, tawheed, roza Fasting verses/Ramadan mentioned in this Surah Prohibition of alcohol & gambling Allah accepts benefits and pleasure of alcohol but the evil of it is more than good. Islam is more than rituals, theology and morality. There are Personal laws: marriage, divorce (give gift at parting),idat. Islamic enomomics: financing. Contract law. Witnesses. Biggest sin: INTEREST. Allowed trading. Islam aims at betterment of human society. Story of Adam and our origination There are other creations: shaitaan and angels (jibrael and Mikail are mentioned by name) Ibrahim built kaaba but did not feel sense of entitlement/arrogance
Surah 5- maida (table laid with food)
Majority Surah is at farewell pilgrimage, within 2-3 months of Prophet (saw) passing away. Jist of Surah "Muslims need to be faithful to their contracts and commitments." Biggest is with Allah, lailaha illAllah Act justly even in hatred. (When Muslims had upper hand over pagans Allah is saying this to Muslims) From verse 12: hazrat musa, issa stories Tackling Christian theology in this Surah 72: those who say that Jesus is god, they have disbelieved. The messiah himself said to worship Allah only. The New Testament has not a single verse of mainstream Christianity: trinity, that he is god etc. 17: who can prevent if Allah wanted to destroy Mary/Jesus ..to Allah belongs everything 75: shows mortality of Jesus.. "he was only a messenger and both his mom and him ate food," Paul never claimed trinity. Barteherman book! Convert. How Jesus became god. 54: use ur intellect and read ur own prophets and wat ur prophet said! Hazrat Adams dons story and first death that took place.
Juz 3 - imran
Maryam's sister husband / khalu Zakarya's story: He was an elderly man who did not have children He made dua to Allah and had a son called Yahya (John the Baptist in English). Jesus and Yahya were maternal cousins. Quran mentions the main characters so u focus in moral if the story no dates etc. like Jesus mother name etc is not mentioned.
Juz 2- ayatul kursi(end of bakarah)
Obaid said it's greatest Surah of quran.. Prophet (saw) affirmed. More than 15 names /attributes of Allah (saw) Prophet (saw) recited before going to sleep. He said if u recite after every single salam, there is nothing between him & Hannah except his own death. Last 3 verses of bakarah were gifted to prophet (saw) on Miranda under throne of Allah (saw): Allah knows you have the strength to carry the burden you are tested with! Allah does not set u for failure. You need to strive. Last versus 286: memorize :rabbana ..." asking to pardon and mercy from mistakes we make unintentionally & not burden us and enemy. Middle of bakarah 143: this is how we have made you a middle/moderate nation. Example we want this world and the next. We believe in spirit and in the law.. etc. "So you maybe witnessed to mankind" Allah asking us to be role model so people can reflect on themselves! Our responsibility.
Juz 2- hadood of Islamic state
Murder, rape, stealing society is at risk Islamic sehri yah is come in check. 178- qisaas- retaliation if someone is killed is described for u - once it's proven he is a murderer then the "penalty" for killing is execution. BUT if family of deceased decides to forgive its good for them. If there are 10 family memeber &, even if 1 says forgiven then guilty is forgiven. The guilty now has to pay financial penalty of 100 camels.
Surah. isra - 13
Night journey mekkah to Jerusalem- masjid Aksa to lead prayer with all prophets. Overall theme to price miracle of Quran. 9:10 - good tidings to the believers 13: read your own book of ur own deeds.. Will be around our neck on akhrat.
Juz 2-verse 170 (following ancestors!)
People said we will follow ancestors. Allah says : What if ancestors didn't know well? Quraish were born at time of paganism, just like that we sometimes fall prey of culture etc. On day of judgement ur ancestors won't save you. Later people will believe earlier people. Verse 216- fighting (going to war) is ordained for you. It's possible you dislike something and it's good for u, and what's good for u may be bad for u. Right & wrong is not based on what we like. In Islam u don't go to war for material reasons (oil etc), it must be for a HIGHER cause like for Allah. 251- why we have to go to war: 257- u can never FORCE to spread religion! 190- fight for the cause of Allah those who are threat to u if they are fighting you. Don't go beyond what's reasonable.
Juz 12- Surah Ibrahim
Prophet (saw) faced challenges Be grateful to Allah: HUMILITY Perfection of gratefulness comes when u realize blessings , become humble and connect to Allah
Juz 6- An'am -purity of food
Purity of food. What you inject physically will impact you spiritually. Wealth must be pure to purchase. Superstition practices that jahailiat did are mentioned 118-121: Allah mentioned that we should eat animals when Allah's name (or god of Ibrahim)has been mentioned at time Of slaughter. - Qadhi also agrees with this opinion. 116: if you were to follow majority of the people, u will be left astray!
Juz1-Surah bakra
Story of Suleman: Relationship with jinns Don't expect if you are going to do something right, everyone is going to praise you. We need Allah to be on our side. Suleiman being prophet of God, was slandered during and after life, false accusations, he was righteous so look Allah defended him in the Quran! If you are righteous Allah will defend you.
Juz1- Surah Fatiha
Reminder of day of judgment Our purpose to worship no one besides Allah Ask Allah to guide us to the straight path of those he has blessed Intro to relationship of Allah and us
Juz1- Surah bakarah
Repetition of Story of Musa, children of Israel Main theme of Surah: Mistakes of previous generation to learn from! Too many questioning of why we need to do this and that and Allah said there was GOod in all that for you but you kept questioning! Sin of arrogance: just say we depend to Allah. Brought destruction to bani'israel. Prove truth of Islam to other faith/traditions!: names Christian vs jews mean nothing, righteous said we will follow methodology of Ibrahim. Main benefits of bakarah is "interfaith" dialogue and techniques: at times Allah reminds them of history, at times rational and think, sources insider info from what they believed, addresses their superiority that who will enter heaven/hell by challenging intellectual ability to bring your truth through evidence. Allah says "whoever will do good , & turns to Allah (names/muslim etc don't matter) will enter kingdom of Allah.
Juz 3- Surah imran
Revealed middle of the Medina phase 4th year of Hijra. Topics different than Bakrah. Battle of badr already occurred (Surah alfal talks abt this).. 3rd yr of hijra Arrangements of Surah came from consensus of companions.
Surah 6- An'am (domesticated cattle/animals)
Tawheed , rasalat, Akhrat. First Makkah Surah. Listen Abdul hadi recitation? THEME: purity of food. Verse 35: eagerness for miracles Verse 8: why don't angels come Allah says He sent miracles through prophet but u still did not believe .. some called magic 111: Allah said if I sent angel on Quraish u will not get a second chance to think how to act.. and still if they did not believe (like thought it's magic) He will destroy them. So prophet (saw) said to not send an angel and people of Quraish eventually believed. Miracle of life, creation, sleep, prophets, Quran.. 12/31/94 day of judgement verses The life of this world seduced them. Verse 59: ibrahim-monotheistic Commentary: Ibrahim was NOT searching for God. He already knew about Allah. Verse81- long list of prophets (18)!
Juz1- Surah bakarah
Theology/history: Beginning of time Calendar - crescent /Ramadan "Oh who you believe submit yourself 100% do not pick and choose" it's holistic way of life. We won't be Perfect and Adam story teaches us that but our attitude , frame of mind, willing to submit and if I make mistake I ask for Allah's forgiveness. This is a book that has No DOUBT in it. Final challenging verse in Quran for people who have doubt of divine book: bring one chapter similar to bakarah or any and get whatever help u want!
Juz 8- Surah Al-Anfal 75 verses
Verse 1: Allah decides bounty of war should go where. V9: battle wasn't win just by 310 people but also angels that helped them by Allah V10: victory only comes from Allah! Verse 23/24 If Allah knew there's good in them Allah chooses. 30: Allah is best of planners I'm not going to destroy all of you as long as you are still asking for forgiveness. Presence of prophet is enough for you. Even if he's not there but there's hope for astagfhar then punishments will be released. 38: after all they have done and they stop,repent , their past should be forgiven. - if there's hope for Quraish (gifting prophet) then anyone can be forgiven! 42: reminder of qadr.. Allah plan was that you meet.. Allah wills it - Allah replanned it. 43: prophet (saw) saw less people in dream from Quraish side but actually they were more. Allah deliberately showed that so sahaba felt encouraged. qadr does not mean you sit back and wait for miracles to happen. Prophet (saw) prayed whole night before and fought badr. If Quraish was not as evil there would be no badr! Islam first default is peace.
