Hurdles

Cradle

A device that consists of wooden slats or round rods woven together that go around a horse's neck to keep the neck straight and prevent the horse from chewing at itself

Catching hook

A hook, usually about five inches long, attached to a long-handled pole for the purpose of catching chickens and turkeys

pig catcher

A long-handled, large clamp with a rope that holds the ends of the clamp shut

Twitch

Device used to distract horses during exams or procedures by applying and releasing pressure on the upper lip

Stock

Narrow enclosure that partially immobilizes a horse for treatment.

Cattle chute

The front of the chute has an opening that holds the cow's head in place (called a stanchion), and poles on either side for cross-tying. Some chutes also have side walls that can be pressed in to move the cow to one side of the chute

Humane twitch

Restraint device with a hinged metal device that is placed over the upper lip of the horse and clipped to the halter. Used by 1 person

Bull Staff

Restraint equipment for cattle that consists of a long-handled metal rod with a large hook at one end that clips to the nose ring, helping to restrain the head

tail tying

Technique that involves tying an animal's tail out of the way for certain procedures

Tail Jacking

Used to prevent the animal from kicking, this technique restrains an animal for minor technical procedures. It involves lifting the tail up in line with the animal's spine to prevent fracturing the vertebrae
