How were Native Americans impacted as a result of westward expansion? (Provide SPECIFIC historical details)

As the people of the United States expanded West, this forced Native Americans off of their land. An example of this is with the Trail of Tears when Jackson forced Native Americans off of their land and forced them to move elsewhere, traveling along the trail of tears.

What two groups immigrated in large numbers to America in the 1830s and 1840s? Where did they tend to settle?

Germany and Ireland were the people who settled most during these years. The Irish came because of the potato famine and the Germans came because they were running from a corrupt government. The irish tended to settle in places such as New York and Germans settled in places like Pennsylvania.

Identify and briefly explain two new technological innovations of the Market Revolution.

Interchangeable parts were invented during this times period by Eli Whitney who felt it would make life easier to have the same parts for most guns. This allowed for faster production and the assembly line to be created The cotton gin also allowed for production time to be lessened and also the increase in slave labor in the United States

What happened to the amount of Americans able to vote under Andrew Jackson's Presidency? What groups were still not able to vote?

Jackson be it possible for the working man to vote under his presidency. Women and African American people still couldn't vote.

What is nativism? What are examples of this during Antebellum America?

Nativism was the fact that people didn't like the immigrants and the way that they were "taking their jobs" and affecting their image and economy. An example of this is the Know-Nothing Party which was made up of people who wanted stricter enforcement laws on immigrants.

How were tensions during Jackson's administration?

Tensions were high during Jackson's presidency because there was a lot of controversy surrounding the elections that he was a part of. There were also many economic problems during this time period.

The Second Great Awakening caused... Many social reforms such as the temperance movement and an increased want for abolition of slaves It caused women to take a more active role in society It caused for the religions in America to diversify

What was the goal of Henry Clay's American System? Was it successful?

The goal of Clay's American System was to better the United States economy and make them more independent. It consisted of three parts, a tariff to promote and protect American Industry, a national bank and the promotion of internal improvements. I was said to be quite successful because it allowed the United States to become more confident which allowed their independence to flourish.

What was the goal of the Seneca Falls Convention? Did they achieve this goal?

The goal of this convention was to cause women to have more rights in America, a multitude of women met and discussed things such as the right to vote, equal social status and legal rights. What resulted from this convention was a document called the the "Declaration of Sentiments" which expressed these discussion topics. Unfortunately, the convention wasn't very successful and not much improved because of it.

What were reasons for the growth of the Second Party System? (Democrats and Whigs).

The reason for the Second Party System was mostly based off of the election of 1824 - this election was between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson and it was said to have caused a lot of controversy. Going into this election, there were no political parties with the Federalist and Anti-federalists being obliterated in previous years. This caused a need for political parties which were created during this election based off of the differing viewpoints of the candidates.

democrat: Wanted a weak federal government with the government having little to no control over anything. whig:Wanted a strong federal government who had a strong voice on social and economic decisions.
