Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is defined as a Cobb angle greater than or equal to 10 degrees, age of onset 10 years or greater and no identifiable etiology. The Cobb angle is determined on radiography and is the measurement used to monitor the progression of scoliosis. As patients mature, skeletal curves can progress. Assessment of risk factors for progression affects management, however completely accurate prediction is impossible.
