Why are they called Saturated Fats?

between two carbon atoms there are no double bonds which makes them a solid.

Difference between Fats and Oils?

fats are solid. oils are liquid.

How do you detect what kind of Fat you have?

if you mix saturated fat with bromine water there would be no colour change, it would stay orange. if you mix unsaturated fat with bromine water, the water would be come colourless.

Features of Unsaturated Fats?

liquid at room temperature because they have a lower melting point. come from plants e.g olive oil, sunflower oil. more healthy e.g do a good job at lowering blood cholesterol.

How do you convert unsaturated fats to saturated fats to make them more useful?

react the long carbon change with the double bonds with hydrogen gas, and add a nickle catalyst (metal) at 60 degrees, it will speed up the reaction and convert the liquid into the solid saturated fat. the double bond will disappear from the long chain of carbon atoms and the hydrogens will join on onto the carbons.

Features of Saturated Fats?

solid at room temperature because they have a higher melting point. come from animals e.g butter, lard. less healthy

What do they both contain?

they both have long hydrocarbon chains.

Why are they called Unsaturated Fats?

you'll find double bonds between two carbon atoms which makes them a liquid.
