Consequences of not having sex

There are many reasons why a teen might choose to have sex or not have sex. A person should think about the consequences of each choice and what they care about before making decisions about any kind of sex.

Both young men and young women can make their own decision about whether or not to have sex. It doesnt matter whether a person is male or female, or has had sex before or not. Teenagers can always make their own decisions about sex.

Not having sex is the only 100% effective way to prevent giving or getting STIs. Not having vaginal sex is the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy.

In PHE, when we talk about genitals, we mean a person's external organs of reproduction. For men, this includes the penis and the scrotum. For women, this includes the vulva (the vaginal opening, the clitoris, the urethra, the labia, and the mons pubis).
