Slope-Intercept Form

When an equation is written in the form, y = mx + b, where m represents the slppe of the line, and b represents the y-intercept.

If you have two points and want to write the equation of a line, you need to

find the slope (m) and then use the equation y=mx+b and substitute the m and the (x,y) in and find b.

To write the equation of a line, you need to find

slope (m) and y-intercept (b)

The m in the y=mx+b is the

slope of the line (rise over run)

Write the equation if b = 3 and m = -2

y= -2x+3

Slope-intercept form for equation of a line.

y=mx+b

Write the equation if b = -7 and m = 1/2

y = 1/2x - 7

The b in y=mx+b is the

y-intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis)

Slope

The measurement of the change in the y direction(vertical change), over the change in the x direction(horizontal change), Slope is written as a fraction.

Y-Intercept

The point where the equation of a line crosses the Y-axis.
