Macula Lutea

"yellow spot" on the retina and within it is the fovea centralis, highest density of cone receptors.

Ciliary Body

A continuation of the vascular tunic (choroid) anteriorly. Ciliary body becomes 2 structures: iris (pigmented portion) and the ciliary zonule ( suspensory ligaments) that holds the lens. Autonomic changes (sympathetic/parasympathetic) stimulate the ciliary body and therefore change the shape of the lens (light control) and the iris ( diameter of the pupil)

Suspensory ligament

Also an extension of the ciliary body;holds the lens.Contraction or relaxation of the ciliary body and the ligaments changes the lens shape and light accommodations.

Scleral venous sinus

Also known as " canal of schlemm" located at the transition junction of the scleral and the cornea anteriorly. Drains the aqueous humor.

Iris

An extension of the ciliary body anteriorly and partially in front of the lens, leaving a gap called the pupil. The pupil regulates the amount of light into the eye.: colored part

Lens

Avascular hard biconvex structure . its shape can be adjusted ( flattered or rounded) by the ciliary body ( and suspensory ligaments) to accommodate more or less light and focusvit on the retina.

Fovea Centralis

Fovea (depression) is located within the Macula lutea . Has the highest density of cone receptors

Sclera

Outer fibrous coat. Anteriorly becomes the cornea. At the junction of the sclera and cornea is the sclera-venous sinus for the drainage of aqueous humor

pupil

The center diameter of the pigmented iris in front of the lens, it is regulated by the autonomic nervous system.

Retina

The neural tunic has the photoreceptors ( rods, cones) : below choroid

Cornea

The transparent layer of the eye is a continuation of the sclera. also known as "window of the eye" and helps focus light into the lens.

Choroid

The vascular tunic would become modified anteriorly into 3 structures: ciliary body, the iris ( pigmented portion) and suspensory ligament, responsible for accommodation: layer right below sclera

Vitreous Humor

This is the content of region behind the lens, also called the posterior cavity. Made of semisolid material, keeps the eyeball from collapsing, lasts a lifetime.

Aqueous humor

This is the content of the region behind the cornea and i front of the lens( anterior cavity). made of watery material, absorbed in canal of schlemm. over production or problem with drainage causes glaucoma.

Optic Disc

This is where the optic nerve exists in the eyeball. Lack any photoreceptors. also known as blind spots in visual fields where both eyes overlap.

ora serrata

This si the anterior border of the retina where the choroid layer is exposed.
