Testout Chapter 4
These use either physical contact or lasers to map the size and shape of a physical object and convert it into a 3D digital model
3D Scanners
A device that can scan barcodes. Most commonly used in retail environments
Barcode reader
These are used as a form of authentication. Able to scan users' unique physical features and use them to verify their identify.
Biometric Scanner
USB cables have wires to carry both power and data. Devices that get their power via the USB cable. Classified as low-powered or high-powered devices, depending on the amount of power they draw from the USB bus
Bus powered. Low power device use 100 mA or less. High power use between 100 and 500. up to 900 for USB 3.0
This is contains an embedded microchip or a magnetic strip is inserted into the reader
Card Reader
This type of projector uses a spinning color wheel to create RGB color and a DMD to control light. More expensive then LCD projectors and not as compact
DLP projectors
This captures some type of analog signal and converts it into digital data
Digitizer
These are specifically designed to convert paper documents into digital documents
Document Scanner
These are input devices designed specifically for computer gaming.
Game controllers. Main types are gamepads and joystick.
These capture analog stylus strokes written on a pad and convert them into digital data. Mostly used by graphic artists to capture hand-drawn images
Graphic Tables
This allows multiple computers to use a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
KVM Switch
These use liquid crystal technology to display visual information. Most common type of display device and range in size from less than an inch to over 10 feet.
LCD (Liquid-crystal display)
This type of projector use a small internal LCD screen to control light and create images. They are inexpensive and very compact and can fit inside a pocket
LCD projectors
This converts sound into an electrical signal.
Microphone
A good place to start when troubleshooting video is to adjust what and what for multiple failed jobs to provide clues about which component is malfunctioning.
Monitor Settings and Checking logs
These are devices that are able to detect the slightest amount of movement in an area.
Motion sensor
A set of communication protocols that allows devices to communicate when the are within 1.6 inches of one another.
Near Field Communication (NFC)/ Tap Pay Device
This display use a thin layer of an organic compound that lights in response to an electrical current. These are more efficient, offer a wider viewing angle, and provide faster response times. More expensive
OLED
What is any external component that either sends information to or retrieves information from a computer. What are the categories
Peripheral Devices. Categories: input, output, input & output (I/O)
These use millions of small cells that contain electrically charged ionized gases
Plasma
These are display devices that use light to project display output onto a wall or screen. Used in classrooms and meetings to display information for a large audience
Projector
This uses a powerful light source and a lens to project visual content onto a surface, which is typically a specialized screen
Projector
These are used to scan hard-copy images and documents and convert them into digital input for the PC
Scanner
Devices that rel on their own power supply.
Self-powered. USB 2.0 devices that draw more than 500 mA of power are required. USB 3.0 devices that draw more than 900 mA of power are required
These are used to obtain signatures for transactions and agreements.
Signature Pad
1. Computers require a functioning video card to boot
System does not boot. If system doesn't boot and monitor is blank , check the monitor's power and video connections. If motherboard returns a POST error, ensure the video card is seated properly. If it still doesn't boot replace video card
These are typically found on notebook computers and are used in place of a mouse.
Touchpad
The most commonly used connection interface. Allows up to 127 devices to be connected to a single bus Uses serial communication Supports plug-and-play and hot plugging provides 5V or power through the cable
USB (Universal Serial Bus) All versions are backwards compatible
Restarting what mode is also helpful in many situations
VGA mode
A device worn on the head that covers the eyes and provides separate images for each eye, stereo sound, and motion tracking sensors to create a virtual reality experience for the user
VR Headset
When troubleshooting what, keep in mind that the problem might be with a video card, the monitor, or the software settings
