what are some ways to reduce odors & noise?

empty, clean & disinfect bed pans, urinals, commodes, & kidney basins promptly, check incontinent persons often, clean persons promptly; a comfortable sound level does not interfere w/ a person's hearing, promotes privacy when privacy is desired, allows person to take part in social activities, & control voice, handle equipment carefully etc.

what are the basic bed positions?

flat, fowler's position, high-fowler's position, semi-fowler's position, trendelenburg's position, reverse trendelenburg's position.

how do you protect the person from drafts?

have them wear the correct clothing/enough clothing offer lap robes to those sitting (lap robes cover legs), provide enough blankets for warmth, cover them with bath blankets when giving care, move them away from drafty areas

where is the bedpan supposed to be stored?

High-Fowler's position

is a semi-sitting position. the head of the bed is raised 60 to 90 degrees.

Fowler's position

is a semi-sitting position. the head of the bed is raised between 45 & 60 degrees

how do you use the over bed table?

it is moved over the bed by sliding the base under the bed. can be raised or lowered for sitting in chair etc.,

what are the room temps required by OBRA & the CMS?

room teps should be between 71 & 81 degrees fahrenheit

how do you use the bedside stand?

the bedside stand is next to the bed. it is used to store personal items & personal care equipment. it has a top drawer & a lower cabinet with shelves or just drawers etc.

Reverse-trendelenburg's position

the head of the bed is raised & the foot of the bed is lowered. a doctor orders this position.

Trendelenburg's position

the head of the bed is raised & the foot of the bed is lowered. a doctor orders this position.

Semi-Fowler's position

the head of the bed is raised 30 degrees. some agencies define semi-Fowler's position as when the head of the bed is raised 30 degrees & the knee portion is raised 15 degrees

how do you use privacy curtains ?

the persons unit has a privacy curtain that extends around the bed. the curtain is pulled around the bed to provide privacy for the person. always pull the privacy curtain before giving care.

how is the bathroom equipped for the persons use?

they have grab bars, have higher seats for easier wheelchair transfers, everything is in easy reach, signal light next to the toilet
