A way to describe the land's slope; the opposite of steep; shown on a topographic map when the contour lines are spaced farther apart
Elevation
The height of land above sea level
Slope
The steepness of the land; can be steep, gradual or flat
Profile view
a drawing that shows an object as though you were looking at it from the side
Topographic map
a map that shows the surface features of an area, shows surface features of an area such as mountains, valleys, plains, and plateaus by using contour lines to show changes in elevation; also known as a contour map
Contour lines
lines that connect points of equal elevation on a topographic map
Contour interval
the difference in elevation between one contour line and the next
Relief
the difference in elevation between the highest and lowest parts of a landform
