what does the body system consist of
circulatory system
The blood circulatory system (cardiovascular system) delivers nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body. It consists of the heart and the blood vessels running through the entire body. The arteries carry blood away from the heart; the veins carry it back to the heart.
endocrine
The endocrine system is made up of glands that produce and secrete hormones, chemical substances produced in the body that regulate the activity of cells or organs. These hormones regulate the body's growth, metabolism (the physical and chemical processes of the body), and sexual development and function.
respiratory
The human respiratory system is a series of organs responsible for taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide. The primary organs of the respiratory system are lungs, which carry out this exchange of gases as we breathe.
lymphatic
The lymphatic system is made up of groups of lymph nodes throughout the body, which are connected by a network of lymph vessels. The lymphatic system: acts as a one-way drainage system transporting fluid from body tissues into the blood circulation. contains white blood cells called lymphocytes, which fight infection.
urinary
The urinary tract is important because it filters wastes and extra fluid from the bloodstream and removes them from the body. The ureters, bladder, and urethra move urine from the kidneys and store it until releasing it from the body.
digestive system
The walls of the small intestine absorb the digested nutrients into the bloodstream. The blood delivers the nutrients to the rest of the body. Large intestine. The waste products of the digestive process include undigested parts of food and older cells from the GI tract lining.
muscular
There three types of muscles in the human body: skeletal muscle, smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. Skeletal muscles are attached to the skeleton bones, and provide movement of the body. Smooth muscle is found in our internal organs such as the digestive system, respiratory system, blood vessels, and bladder.
immune
Your immune system is your body's defense against infection and illness. It recognizes the cells that make up your body, and will try to get rid of anything unfamiliar. It destroys germs (bacteria and viruses) and parasites. But this defense system can also cause problems.
nervous
Your spinal cord receives information from the skin, joints and muscles of your body. It also carries the nerves that control all your movements. Your brain is the most complicated part of your nervous system.
