Sublimation

A method where the substances change from a solid that sublimes upon heating from another substance with a high melting point.

Chromatography

A technique that is used to separate the components of a mixture based on molecular attractions and the tendency of each component to travel or be drawn across the surface of another material.

Distillation

A technique that separates the substances in a solution based on their boiling points. Vapor is condensed and collected as a pure liquid.

Magnetic separation

Separating out the magnetic parts of a mixture using a magnet

Crystallization

a separation technique that produces pure solid particles of a substance from a solution that contains the dissolved substance

Filtration

a technique that uses a porous barrier to separate a solid from a liquid

Evaporation

is used for the separation of soluble solids and solvents. In this separation method, a solution is heated until the solvent evaporates, leaving behind a solid residue.
