2. Common Registration Errors
You are not permitted to register at this time
Why? - The most common reason for this is that a students classification (senior, junior, etc.) is not allowed to register yet or the student is selecting the incorrect term What can you do? -Wait for registration to open for your classification or make sure you are selecting the correct term
Student Status prohibits regristration
Why? - record is inactive due to being out for two semesters What can you do? -If you are an undergrad you have to reapply on apply texas.
Open- Reserved for Wait List
Why? -Seats are reserved for students on the wait list What can you do? -You can enroll on the wait list
Duplicate Course with section
Why? -Student is trying to register for more then one section of the same course What can you do? -Select best time and date
You may not add or drop classes due to holds on your record
Why? -There is a hold preventing them from registering on their account What can you do? -Check the hold guide
SR
Why? -They aren't registering in the time that they need to for their classification -Student record is not active due to being out for at least two semesters What can you do? -Log into my.utrgv.edu -Click on ASSIST -Click on the Student Services tab -Click on Registration -Click on Registration Status -Select the Term you want to register for
Cohort Restriction
Why? -This happens when a student is trying to register for a course that is part of the teacher education program but the student isnt in that program What can you do? -If you are pursuing a Teacher Certification select another course -If not in program apply or select another course
Prerequisite Required
Why? -This happens when you haven't taken the first course needed in order to take that class such as English 1301 What can you do? -Select a different class
Program Restriction
Why? -This happens when you need to be in a certain degree to enroll in the class What can you do? -Check your academic record information to see what your program of study is in the system. Click on ASSIST Click on the Student Services tab Click on Registration Click on Registration Status After that, check if your program of study matches the restriction for that class. Click here for instructions on how to find out the class restriction. If you don't belong to one of the approved programs for that class or have a PRE before your major, select a different class. If your program is not correct, you can correct it by contacting your advisor to submit a Change or Major/Minor form.
Duplicate CRN
Why? -This message shows when a student is already registered for the section and is trying to add it again What can you do? -Drop it there is no reason to add it again
5000-7000 level for Grads
Why? -This message shows when you are an undergraduate student registering for a graduate class What can you do? - Select an undergraduate class instead
Maximum Hours Exceeded
Why? -This message shows when you have reached the maximum amount of enrollment hours allowed per term. For undergrads for Fall and Spring it is 18hrs in the Summer it is 7. For graduate students its 15 hours for a semester and 7hrs for each summer term What can you do? -If you need to enroll in extra hours, contact the Dean's office for your college
Linked Course Required
Why? -This message shows when you must select different sections at the same time before registering. Like Bio and a Lab What can I do ? -Register for both sections, lecture and lab at same time -Try a different combination for lecture and lab
Corequisite required
Why? -This shows when two different classes must be taken at the same time -If you drop one you have to drop both!!!!! What can you do? -Check what the corequisite course is -check other sections -Add the CRN for both classes
Class restriction
Why? -You are trying to register for a class typically for an upper class level for which you do not meet the classification restriction What can you do? - Select a different class
There are seats left but I can't add the class
Why? -You might not meet the restrictions -check if there is a cross list -Seats might be taken by students taken a paired course What can you do? -Select another section or wait list the course if possible
Specific Major Required
Why? -you need to be in a specific major to enroll What can you do? Check your academic record information to see what your major is in the system. Click on ASSIST Click on the Student Services tab Click on Registration Click on Registration Status After that, check if your major matches the restriction for that class. Click here for instructions on how to find out the class restriction. If you don't belong to one of the approved majors for that class, select a different class. If your major is not correct, you can correct it by contacting your advisor to submit a Change or Major/Minor form. If you already submitted the Change of Major/Minor form and your information is not updated yet, please contact U Central in person or via email at [email protected].
Academic Standing prohibits registration
Why? Student was suspended academically. Student cannot register for one semester What can you do? If you already sat out a semester contact UCentral in person or via email ([email protected]) to have your record reviewed and determine if your academic standing requires updating. -Graduate students must contact the Graduate College at [email protected] -If you were not suspended at all academically call U central
Special Approval
Why? -This message shows when you need special approval from the department in charge of that class What can you do? -we can't approve special approvals have them call the department to apply
Time Conflict
Why? -Two classes are over lapping or conflicting What can you do? -Select a different time
