Field

A common characteristic of the data that the table will describe.

Autonumber

A data type that automatically assigns a unique numeric value to a field.

Currency

A data type that stores numbers formatted as monetary values.

Foreign key

A field on the many side of a relationship used to relate to the table on the one side of the relationship.

Caption

A field property that determines what displays in datasheets, forms and report labels.

Primary key

A field that uniquely identifies each record in a table.

One-to-many relationship

A relationship in which a record in the first table can have many associated records in the second table.

Referential integrity

A rule that keeps related values synchronized.

Quick Start

A set of fields that can be added with a single click. For example, the Address data type inserts 5 fields for storing postal addresses.

Table Design

An Access view that features table fields and their properties.

Subdatasheet

Displays related records from another table by matching the values in the field that relates the two tables.

Quick Print

Prints the object directly.

Record

The collection of related information that displays in a single row of a database table.

Table

The object that stores the data by organizing it into rows and columns. Each column is a field and each row is a record.

Data type

This specifies the kind of information that a field will hold; for example, text or numbers.
