General Guidance

Appear professional and conservative No profanity in uniform No jaywalking in uniform No eating or drinking while moving when in uniform No using electronic devices (eg. cell phones) while moving when in uniform. Special exceptions may be given for PFA. Keep uniforms properly fitted, altered, and pressed. Keep buttons/zippers closed/zipped and shirts tucked in Necklaces can be worn but cannot be visible. Earrings are allowed for females. They must match, be spherical, conservative, and be no more than 6mm in diameter. Ankle bracelets are not allowed. One bracelet around the waist is allowed but it must be conservative. 1 watch is allowed but must be conservative When OPORDS specify utilities, wear ABU's. If you don't own ABU's, wear PTU's.

Uniform Wear (ABU)

A desert sand (tan), short or long sleeved t-shirt will be worn under the ABU coat. Trousers will be 50% nylon and 50% cotton, with button fastenings and an Air Force digitized tiger stripe print. The trouser waistband will rest on the Airman's waist. Pockets will be secured and items stowed in pockets will not be visible except pens stowed in the pen pocket. Tucking the ABU trouser into the boot is optional. Whether tucked in or bloused, the trouser must be evenly bloused (gathered in and draped loosely) over the top of the combat boot and must present a bloused appearance. Desert Sand colored (Tan). A one piece rigger style, nylon, web belt (1 ¾ inch wide)will be worn with ABU trousers Sage Green Boots. Will be worn with the Airman battle uniform, the battle dress uniform or the flight duty uniform. Boots will be sage green, lace up with plain rounded toe or rounded capped toe with or without a perforated seam. A zipper or elastic inserts may be worn; however, if worn, they will be without design. Green boots can be either with or without a safety toe.

Uniform Wear(PTG)

During ROTC, must wear both a top (shirt or shirt + jacket) and bottom piece (shorts or pants). Shirt must be tucked in The jacket will be zipped at least halfway between the waistband and collar. Sleeves will end within 1-inch of the wrist. Must be paired with white or black socks All personal grooming standards apply while participating in physical fitness activities with one exception: long female hair will be secured but may have loose ends; body art (tattoos) and jewelry standards apply. Proper military customs and courtesies honoring the flag during reveille/retreat will apply. Saluting due to rank recognition is not required while in PTU's.

Hair Regulations

Males: Must be clean and well-groomed - shave before coming to LLAB/PT days Grooming aids will not be used excessively (i.e. hair gel) No foreign items will be used Dye should look natural Hair will not touch ears or neck Hair will not touch eyebrows or be visible below the front of the cap Hair must have tapered appearance, block cut, shaved or high and tight Will not exceed 1¼ inches in bulk, but length doesn't matter Females: No extreme or faddish styles Dye, highlights, and/or frosting should look natural Hair cannot extend below invisible line drawn at back, bottom edge of collar Hair will not exceed 3 1/2 inches in bulk Hair style must allow headgear to be worn properly Keep hair in place with conservative pins, combs, headbands, elastic bands, or barrettes can be black regardless of hair color Professional in appearance

Greetings/Saluting Protocols

Morning (0000-1159) Afternoon (1200-1659) Evening (1700-2359) Cadets will salute and render the greeting of the day outdoors when passing any commissioned officer, warrant officer, or senior cadet officer. When in PTU's, do not salute except below. If in any official Air Force uniform, cadets will salute during the raising and lowering of the United States flag or while the national anthem is being played (outdoors). Cadets will salute indoors when reporting in to an officer or when receiving and award from a commissioned officer, warrant officer, or senior cadet officer. When walking with personnel with superior rank, the lower ranking member will allow the superior to take the position to the right. Sir/Ma'am are always used when verbally addressing commissioned officers. The room is always called to attention when a commissioned officer enters the room.

Uniform Wear (SSB)

The name tag will be blue plastic with the last name engraved in white lettering. The name tag will be centered, even with to 1 ½ inches higher or lower than the first exposed button on the wearer's right

Uniform Wear (SDB)

The woman's service dress coat will be polyester and wool-blend, serge weave; semidrape, single-breasted with three buttons and will have one welt pocket on the upper left side and two lower pocket flaps. Officer's coat will have epaulets; enlisted coats will have no epaulets. General officers will wear a 1 ½ inch wide blue sleeve braid, 3 inches from the end of the sleeve. All other officers will wear a ½ inch wide blue sleeve braid 3 inches from the end of the sleeve. With arms hanging naturally, sleeves will end ¼ to ½ inch below the wrist. The bottom of the coat will extend 3 to 3 ½ inches below the top of the thigh. The sleeves and lapel will be roll-pressed. The US lapel insignia is placed halfway up the seam, resting on but not over it. The letters in the insignia are parallel with the ground. "US" insignia for officers do not have circles; circles are worn around the "US" insignias for enlisted personnel only. The name tag will be blue plastic with the last name engraved in white lettering. The name tag will be centered, even with to 1 ½ inches higher or lower than the first exposed button on the wearer's right Slacks will be blue and fit naturally over the hips with no bunching at the waist or bagging at the seat. The bottom front of the slack legs will rest on the front of the shoe or boot with a slight break in the crease. The back of the slack legs will be approximately ⅞ inch longer than the front. The slacks will be tailored, straight hanging, with no flare at the bottom or additional alterations to further taper the leg. They will have a center fly -front opening and front and back waist darts, two one -quarter top side pockets, and a waistband with five belt loops. The slacks material will be 100% polyester, polyester wool tropical, or wool blend with a serge weave. The skirt will be polyester or poly-wool blue and hang naturally over the hips with a slight flare. The skirt will be no shorter than the top of the kneecap and no longer than the bottom of the kneecap while standing at attention. The skirt will be straight style with belt loops, a kick pleat in the back, two pockets, and a darted front. Skirts will have a back zipper and lining attached to the waist. The skirt material will match the service dress coat in both fabric and shade. The belt will be blue, cotton web or elastic, solid or woven. The belt will have a silver (chrome finish) tip and a buckle. The silver tip of the belt will extend beyond the buckle facing the wearer's right; however, no blue fabric will be visible between the silver tip and silver buckle. General officers may wear the "wing and star" design, silver belt buckle

Email Format

When writing emails, address the individual or individuals with the proper greeting of the day and appropriate rank. Good Morning (0000-1159) C/Bear, Good Afternoon (1200-1659) Capt Bear, Good Evening (1700-2359) C/2nd Lt Bear Signature Block: At the end of every email, state "Very Respectfully" followed by your signature block that you can automatically set up so you don't have to keep typing it up every time. Your block should contain: 1.) First name - Middle Initial - Last name - all in caps. Next your current ROTC rank, AFROTC 2.) 85th Cadet Wing 3.) Personal cell phone number 4.)
