-Vehicle fuel level will not exceed 3/4 tank capacity when placed on cargo floor and 1/2 full tank on cargo ramp -Engine powered wheel support equipment will not exceed 1/2 full tank -Engine powered ground support equipment (non-wheeled) must be drained, but no purging is required -Boats and other watercraft may be 3/4 full

Deviations

-When deviation approved the passenger manifest will be annotated with a statement stating so. -Deviation requirements do not apply to gaurds, couriers, technical escorts responsible for cargo, maintenance personnel assigned to support the aircraft, duty passengers with P4 coded cargo

Briefings

Aircraft Commander and/or designated crewmember must be briefed at the base of departure concerning onboard hazardous materials

Carriage of HAZMAT by PAX

Alcoholic beverages not exceeding 70% by volume and in containers less than 5 liters, packaged small arms cartridges (Class 1.4s) up to 19.1 mm not to exceed 11 pounds are authorized to bring aboard.

Overboard Venting of Cryogenic Liquid Storage and Transfer Tanks

All cryogenic liquid storage and transfer tanks must be vented overboard during transport. Shipper provides specific info and the equipment needed to vent overboard. Air terminal personnel and aircraft loadmasters are not qualified to make the hookup

Application of Chapter 3

Allows for some relaxation of the requirements for preparing, packing, and certification of hazardous materials during Tactical, Contingency or Emergency operations

BPRP

Biological Personnel Reliability Program are the responders to damaged, leaking, or containing infectious substances on a package

Class 2 HAZMAT

Compressed Gases

Packaging

Containers must be inspected and free of any incompatible residue, rupture or other damage that reduces the structural integrity. Do not transort any damaged, leaking, or improperly packed, marked, or labeled item or material

Table A4.1

Contains Proper Shipping Name (PSN)

Class 8 HAZMAT

Corrosive Materials

Flightline Safety

Crewmembers will not wear wigs, hair pieces, rings, ornaments, pins, clips, other hair fasteners, or earrings in the aircraft or on the flight line

External Fuel Tanks/Bladders

Drained but not purged

Boats or Other Watercraft Fuel Limit

Drained to the greatest extent possible

Contingency

Emergency involving military forces

Waivers

Exceptions to packaging or compatibility requirements and are granted for a fixed period of time. HQ AMC may issue a waiver. Copy must accompany the cargo at all times

Class 1 HAZMAT

Explosives

Fuel/Fluid Leaks

Five drops per minute from a cooling system, crankcase, gear case, or hydraulic system is considered a leak. Fuel or brake system leaks, no matter how minor, will cause the item to be removed until repaired

Class 3 HAZMAT

Flammable Liquids

Class 4 HAZMAT

Flammable Solids

Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) Fuel Limit

Fuel emptied from fuel tanks, lines, and regulator

Accident Prevention

Identification, Isolation, and Control are the underlying principles of all accident prevention techniques

AFMAN 24-204 Chapter 3

Identifies procedural exceptions in support of the DOD, federal agencies, and allies. Tactical, Contingency, and Emergency

Table A18.1

Identifies those explosives and other hazardous materials which must not be loaded, transported or stored together

Jettison Hazardous Cargo

If there is a risk to flight safety than HAZMAT cargo may be jettisoned over land or water. If flight safety is not jeopardized then the hazardous cargo must be jettisoned at least 12 nautical miles offshore in an open ocean area

Spare Fuel on Chapter 3 Movements

If transported in approved POP/UN specification jerricans and secured in permanent authorized racks mounted on a vehicle or wheeled support equipment. DOT-5L jerricans may only be shipped drained

Tactical

Immediate combat objective

"*"

Indicates segregation among different Class 1 explosives are identified in Table A18.2

The Letter "X"

Indicates that these articles must not be loaded, transported, or stored together

The Letter "O"

Indicates that these materials must not be loaded, transported, or stored together unless separated by 88 inches

Oxygen Label

May be used in place of a "Nonflammable" and "Oxidizer" label for packages containing PSN: Oxygen, Compressed

Class 9 HAZMAT

Miscellaneous Hazardous Materials

Engine Powered Support Equipment Fuel Limit

Must be completely drained of fuel

No restrictions required

Emergency

Noncombat event

Helicopters and Aircraft Fuel Limit

Not to exceed 150 gallons or 3/4 full

Class 5 HAZMAT

Oxidizing Materials

Marking and Labeling

PSN, UN, NA, or ID number must be on the outside of a package for the content(s) within. Freight containers do not require PSN and UN numbers of the contents. HAZARD CLASS LABEL WILL NORMALLY BE LOCATED ON SAME SIDE AS PSN

Certification on Chapter 3 Movements

Palletized, packaged, or containerized hazardous materials not hand carried as individual issue must be certified using the "Shipper's Declaration"

Driving On the Flightline

Personnel must obtain a government driver's license and get special training to operate motor vehicles on the flight line. -General Speed Limit: 15 mph -Withing 25 Feet of an Aircraft: 5 mph -Inside an Aircraft: 3 mph Post guides to monitor the clearance, and position chocks to ensure you don't back into the aircraft
