-decides for someone else a course of action without consulting or receiving consent -approves of actions intended to benefit another person even if that person does not agree
Liberal Political Philosophy
-importance of the individual -commands respect for the individual even if others think they know what is best -belief in the equality of moral worth of all persons

Hippocratic Principle
-physician should benefit the patient according to the best of his or her judgment -paternalistic -absence of recognition of patients' rights
Ways Hippocratic Principle is Challenged
1. doctors decides what is a benefit to the patient, which is subjective 2. benefits contradict with moral duties 3.. conflict between interests of patients and those of others
