sagittal plane
runs longitudinally and divides the body into right and left parts
frontal plane
(aka coronal plane) longitudinal plane that divides the body (or an organ) into anterior and posterior parts
l.s.
abbreviation for a longitudinal section (sagittal or frontal)
median or midsaggital plane
divides the body into equal parts, right down the midline of the body (longitudinal and divides the body into right and left parts)
transverse plane
runs horizontally, dividing the body into superior and inferior parts
cross section
section cut using a transverse plane (abbreviated x.s. or c.s.)
