Headline- smartphone users may be learning new skills at the expense of forgetting new ones P- some skills forgotten - we do not remember cellphone numbers because we have the contact app- so in case of an emergency (say we don't have our phone) we are in trouble (CAN NOT relate to this (PAGE 12) - another missing skill is the ability to read maps (I CAN RELATE TO THIS - as I am very direction challenged) (page 13)

P - cell phone zones have been created in various places (ex. movies and library) to remind people when their phone should be silenced. (Discroll and Walter 1). C- i know that at movies this happens but for meetings and at the library, I feel like it is a given fact that phones should be silenced and put away.

P- things we can take as humans to limit our exposure to radiation; check SAR on phones, limit the number of calls you take, while on the phone use the speaker or hands free and alternate from eat to ear to limit the radiation, avoid carrying your phone in your pocket, limit cell phone use in places where service is poor (especially rural areas), and limit the length of your calls. - precautions you can take

Q- ".. would require labels on cellphones that say the device 'may cause brain cancer' and advise children and pregnant women to keep them away from the head and body" C- LOGOS - this is concerning
a3
Q- "... and since cancers take usually 10 to 20 years to develop, it will be years before research is likely to conclude whether cell phones cause cancer or not" (Zukerman, de Bravo, Kalvin 1). C- so this means that children are at higher risk than adults because they are being exposed at a younger age - ETHOS
F3
Q- "...and some experts worry that teens, who are the heaviest testers, are losing social skills, including the ability to emphasize with others" (Henneberg 4). C- this is a negative and this is something that also could be further researched. this also can be avoided by good parenting (such as when the parents teach children how to interact and behave and talk to others of all ages in all settings, like mine did with me-- and I can point out how many comment on how they are impressed with carlie and i's social skills, because not many children, teens, young adults, today know how to do that).
a2
Q- "..with the risk being highest for a tumor on the same side of the head that the phone is used" (Zukerman, de Bravo, Kalvin 1). C- this shocked me and kind of scared me because this could be very dangerous if one is not aware of the facts - ETHOS
a4
Q- "Even though only 4% of male rats exposed to radiation developed these tumors, they are so rare that the scientists concluded that cell phone radiation was the cause" (Zukerman, de Bravo, Kalvin 1). C- LOGOS

Q- "Phones have improved work productivity, health education, and daily life for some. they provide entertainment, escape, and relief from stress and boredom for others." (Henneberg 4). C-THIS IS A POSITIVE TO CELLPHONES ethos - many can relate to this
B3
Q- "according to the NHTSA's Fatal Traffic Crash Data for 2016, motor-vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers resulted in 3,450 fatalities that year" (Driscoll and Walter 3). LOGOS
B4
Q- "others, however, argue that the problem of texting while driving can be eliminated through the driverless vehicle of the future-- by removing the human element from driving, rather than preventing phone use" (Driscoll and Walter 4). C- with innovation and technology, I predict that many cars will be driverless operated. the problem with driving and phone distractions lies within the person. ETHOS
F2
Q- "some researchers argue that mobile phones interfere with sleep as well as study and work habits" (Henneberg 4). C- this is another good point and I think I should research more about these fields (maybe can do a paragraph about this)
B2
Q- "the United States Congress passed the Video Voyeurism Prevention Act, which makes it a crime to photograph individuals without their consent" (Driscoll and Walter 2). C- I find this interesting because many of times (with friends or family) recordings are don't without consent. ETHOS

Q- "the only consistently recognized biological effect of radiofrequency radiation in humans is heating" (Cell Phones and Cancer... 2).

Q- Kevin Kimberlin, a technology expert stated "It's the fastest growing manmade phenomenon ever- from zero to 7.2 billion in three decades" (Henneberg 4). C- LOGOS - shows how fast the technology world is growing

paragraph 2 states that there has been no majority number of studies that have reported a link between self phones and health problems C- this is strange because many of my other sources have had Many bad things to say about cellphones

san franisco passed - Q- "'right to know' ordinance that would require cellphone retailers to display posters and provide factsheets informing customers of potential health risks and outlining how to reduce those risks" (Cellphones and Health 4). C- to me this might be helpful for some and I believe that more states/ countries should pass this as well stating the risks and what actions could be taken to reduce the risk of exposure to unhealthy or unwanted things. but at the same time I do not think that this will be very helpful because if you look at sugar, smoking, alcohol, a number of things; we know what they do to our bodies, we know that they are all bad for us, some only bad with great moderations. and we know that smoking is still very popular, we know that fast food places still serve really bad food knowing that they are putting our health at risk and we are eating it knowing that was we are injesting is not healthy. so on and so fourth. with that being said, will knowing the risks really be beneficial?
