Board of Directors

A group of people elected by investors to run an organization or corporation.

Francophone

A person whose first language is French.

representative democracy

A system of government in which citizens elect representatives, or leaders, to make decisions about the laws for all the people.

Secretary

An official of an organization who helps to keep the minutes and other administrative tasks

Treasurer

Manage the company's cash and financial plans for the future

lobbying

The activities of a group or organization that seek to persuade political leaders to support the group's position

President

The chief executive of an organization

Past-President

The person who was the President the year previous

implementation

The process of putting specific policies into operation

transparency

The requirement to be open and honest about manner in, and purposes for, which personal data can be used

Vice-President

The second in command of an organization

Metis

a First Nations people of mixed Native American and French Canadian descent

electorate

a group of qualified voters

candidates

a person who seeks or is put forward by others for an office or honour

Anglophone

a person whose first language is English

Members at Large

council members that help run the organization

voting ballot

device used to cast votes in an election, and may be a piece of paper (voting chit used to "X" a candidates name)

accountable

expected to answer for one's actions; responsible, liable, answerable

associations

organizations where they have the same interests and ideas

L'Association Canadienne-francaise de l'Alberta (ACFA)

represent the Francophone community of Alberta

Metis Nation of Alberta (MNA)

represents interests and concerns of the Metis people in Alberta

role model

someone whose success or behavior serves as an example for you
