Outer Core

A dense liquid layer.

5 Layers of Earth based on Physical Properties of each layer

1. Lithosphere 2. Asthenosphere 3. Mesosphere 4. Outer Core 5. Inner Core

Inner and Outer Core

Make up about 1/3 of the Earth's mass.

Plate Boundaries

Much of the geological activity a the surface of the Earth takes place here. Enormous forces are generated with these actions causing mountains to form, earthquakes to shake the crust, & volcanoes to erupt along this place.

Tectonic Plates

Are blocks of lithosphere that consist of the crust and the rigid, outermost part of the mantle and glide across the underlying asthenosphere. They may separate, collide or slip past one another.

Inner Core

At the center of the Earth. This is made up of mostly iron and nickel. Even though the temperature is between 4000 - 5000 degrees, it is solid because it is under enormous pressure.

Mesosphere

Beneath the asthenosphere, it is the lowerpart of the mantle.

Major Tectonic Plates

Include the Pacific, North America, South America, Africa, Eurasian, and Antarctic. The continents are located on them and move around with them.

Lithosphere

The solid, outer layer of the Earth that consists of the crust and the rigid upper part of the mantle.

Asthenosphere

The solid, plastic layer of the mantle beneath lithosphere. It is made of mantle rock that flows slowly, which allows tectonic plates to move on top of it.
