Why was the discovery of King Tutankhamen important to both archaeologists and historians?

Although many pharaoh's tombs had been emptied by treasure hunters, King Tutankhamen's tomb was not disturbed and full with treasures including jewelry, robes, a burial mask and ivory statues. King Tut's treasures have taught us much about Egyptian burial practices and beliefs.

Describe and illustrate three types of art in Egypt.

PAINTINGS were one type of art in Egypt. Egyptians painted lively, colorful scenes on canvas, papyrus, pottery, plaster and wood. Detailed paintings also covered the walls and temples and tombs. Huge STATUES and DETAILED CARVINGS on walls were crafted by skilled stoneworkers and were another type of art in Egypt. JEWELRY was made for both women and men out of gold and precious stones and was another type of art in Egypt. This jewelry included necklaces collars and bracelets.

Which do you think would be easier to use for writing and record keeping, clay tablets or papyrus? Explain your choice.

Papyrus because it is long lasting and a paper like material made from reeds. Papyrus would be much easier to write on than on stone.

Why is Rosetta stone important to Egypt's history?

Rosetta Stone was stone slab inscribed with hieroglyphics, a key that Historians and archaeologists needed to read ancient Egyptian writing.

How were scholars able to translate the Hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone?

The Rosetta Stone had text in Greek and a later form of Egyptian. Because the text in all three languages was the same, scholars who knew Greek figured out what the hieroglyphics said.
