To Lobby

D. A consumer group that stands up to powerful interests if they threaten our health and safety, financial security, or right to participate in a democratic society C. consumer group who stands up to interests and will protect consumers of financial fraud
Purpose Incentive
D: A reason people join an interest group, being to achieve a goal or influence the government based on a specific issue C: This is the least common incentive, because people must be extremely passionate of the goal of the group
Think Tank
D:A body of experts providing advice and ideas on specific political or economic problems. C: They publish these ideas in newspapers and in books
Lobbyist
D:A person who tries to persuade someone to support a particular cause C: Most interest groups have many lobbyists to get their opinion to different congressmen
Solidary Incentive
D:A reason or motive having to do with the desire to associate with others and to share with others a particular interest
Political Cue
D:A signal telling a legislator what values are at stake in a vote, and how that issue fits into his or her own political views on party agenda.
AARP
D:American Association of Retired Persons; Nationwide organization for people over 50 that offers discount drug purchases, health & auto insurance, publications, & other activities
Ralph Nader
D:An attorney who was the leading advocate of consumer safety. He wrote a book called "Unsafe at Any Speed" that told of the dangers of automobiles. C:He founded the Green Party
Conflict on Interest
D:An individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other.
Public Interest Group
D:An interest group formed for the purpose of working for the "public good." C:American Civil Liberties Union and Common Cause.
Interest Group
D:An organization of people sharing a common interest or goal that seeks to influence the making of public policy C:The NRA is an interest group.
Grassroots Support
D:Backing for a public policy that arises or is created in public opinion. C:For grassroots support to be best utilized it's power should be in local groups because that is where public opinions can be first formed
Material Incentive
D:Something tangible, such as money or services, which attracts people to join mass-membership organizations.
Revolving Door
D:The cycle in which a person alternately works for the public sector and private sector, thus blurring the individual's sense of loyalty
