Lincoln's view on slavery

He believed it was wrong but before the war he didn't do anything about it except say that he didn't want it to spread. During the war he tried to end it.

North resources

More factories, higher population, more weapons and military, stronger political structure

Emancipation Proclamation

Proclamation issued by Lincoln, it was supposed to free all the slaves in the country. It wasn't effective because Southern States that held slaves didn't believe they were a part of the Union so they didn't see Lincoln as their president. This gave the Union army another reason to fight. Freed slaves in rebellious states.

Secession

Southern states left the union because they thought that Lincoln would take away their slavery. South Carolina seceded first, followed by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

Lincoln's goal

They fought because Lincoln believed that they needed to come together as one country, and then later in the war they made it a goal to win so they could end slavery.

Women in the war

They were nurses, civilian volunteers, and writers.

African American Soldiers

They weren't always paid as much, they were given jobs that they had already been doing as slaves, they were basically given the leftovers of everything. They weren't even allowed to fight until the end.
