Clarity, economy, and grace are benchmarks for good oral communication because utilizing each of these things will make the message you are trying to convey more comprehensible for the reader, and easier to remember.

If an audience member does not understand the connotative meaning of a word, then you should try and change the word to one that has the same connotation. If you must use an unfamiliar word, then give a clear definition of the meaning. Think about what words will be unfamiliar for your audience and make substitutions whenever possible.
Define jargon and list two to three examples.
Jargon is the technical vocabulary of a hobby, occupation, or other specialized activity. Ex. 1: I downloaded my friend's podcast on my cell and then uploaded it to my audio library software before syncing that with my MP3 player, creating a backup on my external hard drive, and then ripping a disc so my dad could listen to the show in his car.

Standard Spoken English: formal and technical, informal or general, conversational. People use this in both formal and informal situations. General rules of grammar and usage apply. Nonstandard Spoken English: Can include elements of Standar Spoken English and also be slang, familiar mainly to a certain region or culture, invented or coined. Many people use this in everyday communication and in any comfortable or informal exchange.

Substance is the content-the message communicated through the denotations of words. Style is the speaker's way the message is expressed, and is determined by word choice, connotation, syntax, and organization.
What is the relationship of the words denotation and connotation?
They both convey meaning. A word's denotation is the explicit, literal meaning (dictionary definition). A word's connotation is a word;s implied or suggested meaning. They can involve emotions, images, or memories.
