Concept 2: Current
Calculate the current flowing through the circuit of a toy car that has a resistance of 20 Ohms and is powered by a 3 volt battery
.15 amps
calculate the voltage difference in a circuit with a resistance of 25 ohms if the current is 0.5 amps
10 Volts
Current
A flow of electric charge.
Explain how a battery works
Changes chemical energy stored inside the battery into electrical energy.
differentiate between the effects of the open vs. closed circuit
If the circuit is open, the current can't flow but if the current is closed then the current will flow.
Describe the four factors that affect resistances
Material: Insulators have more resistance than conductors Size of the wire: Smaller diameter wore has more resistance Length of wire: Longer wires has more resistance Temperature of wire: higher temperature has more resistance
Explain the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance in a circuit
Voltage is the push that causes charges to move and current is the result of voltage. Resistance tries to prevent the current from flowing. The higher the voltage, the higher the current. The lower the resistance, the higher the current.
voltage difference
related to the force that causes electric charges to flow
Ohm's Law
the amount of current is directly proportional to the voltage difference
resistance
the tendency for a material to oppose the flow of electrons
