Irish potato famine was not only due to disease but human interaction, or lack thereof. The British would make ships turn around when the Americans tried to deliver. The enclosure movement is when the town sold land to individual farmers instead of sharing which lead to specialization in agriculture instead of less produce which was the initial belief.

Identify and explain TWO reasons why some geographers today believe Malthus' theory cannot be used to predict future population issues.

Population growth has not been rising geometrically/exponentially because of expanded use of contraception and Political policies, economic decisions, cultural beliefs that limit population growth such as China's one child policy. Food supply has grown faster than predicted by Malthus because new technology and creative thinking. A microsoft ad shows two men who wanted to produce their vegetables in a healthier way so they decided to grow them in a bomb shelter. Another way due to new technology are greenhouse which are ways that plants can be grown above ground due to a little "house" tat can control climate and have ways for the plant to receive water.

Identify and explain TWO reasons why some geographers today believe Malthus' theory can be used to predict future population issues.

Population has been rising quickly because there is limited use of contraception and political policies, economic decisions, cultural beliefs that support population growth like in third world countries contraception are not often used and they believe in having more kids to be able to support them in old age. Food supply has increased but, it has not kept up with population increase because of failure to adopt agricultural innovation, owing to political policies, economic decisions and cultural beliefs . Also because of conversion of farmland for urban use.
