Crutch Walking Stairs
Two-point crutch gait
- Move left crutch and right foot forward together - Move right crutch and left foot forward ahead together Partial weight bearing
Four-point crutch gait
- Used when both legs can bear some weight - right foot, left crutch, left crutch, right foot - Weight bearing on both legs Normal walking
Going down stairs with crutches
1. Move the crutches and affected leg down 2. Moves the affected leg down
Going up stairs with crutches
1. Unaffected leg first 2. Move affected leg and the crutches up
Three-point crutch gait
Patient must bear all weight on one foot Non weight bearing
Swing to Gait
Both crutches are advanced together and then both legs are lifted and placed down again on a spot behind the crutches. * the feet and crutches form a tripod*
