federal government invests $10 billion for school districts to retain or rehire teachers and other educational staff. R2T is how the recovery money is being channeled into schools.

founded by wendy kopp in 1990. college graduates agree to teach in underprivileged area-urban or rural- for at least 2 years. corps members must undergo intensive training. after the two years, members are eligible to earn their teaching certification.

No Child left behind act (NCLB)
reauthorized in 2002 by president george w. bush. mandated statewide testing in reading and math each year in grades 3-8. guarantee all students pass state proficiency tests during the 2013-2014 school year. schools provide evidence that students were making adequate yearly progress.
