An allustion is a reference to something historical in the past. An archetype mentor is a character in the novel who accompanies the hero, and pushes the hero to improve. The mentor of this novel is Iff, the water genie Haroun meet. Iff has been with Haroun majority of the novel and tells him life lessons he can learn from. Iff shows all the descriptions of a mentor in this novel, with trying to push haroun to be the best person he could be and help him make the right decisions. One main reason why Iff is the mentor is because he travels with Haroun majority of the story because he shows a good role model for Haroun, because he is gentle and kind.

An example of a metaphor is when Guy is hearing the voice of Captain Beatty in his head saying "Light the first page, light the second page. Each becomes a black butterfly..." (Bradbury 38). This is an example of a metaphor because he is using the example of the burnt pages being like a black butterfly.

Beatty is burnt by Montag, he dies, he has realized what he has done, montag was right in the sense of his situation, but if it wasn't that big of a deal it wouldn't have been right.

Also Beatty says the books give too much power. He uses simlies to desribe how a book is like a loaded weapon because it gives off too much infomationto people, and Beatty is trying to persuade guy to not read books, or get and intrest of reading them.

Butt the Hoopoe said this when he is thinking about the use of speech, if it can not be used in Chup. This shows the importance of censorship and freedom of speech, due to the war between chup and gup. This also can be a part of Rushdie's life, after writing The Satanic Verses, because people found it disrespectful.

Clarisse's disappearance

Clarisse and Montag were finally becoming friends when Clarisse disappears. When Clarisse disappears Guy is told by his wife Mildred that Clarisse's family moved out of the block and that Clarisse was killed when she was hit by a car. This made Guy very upset that she was gone because she was the only different person in his life, and she was very intelligent to him.

Faber is the old man who monatg meet in the park a year ago. Faber used to be an english professor, but not anymore. He went back to him because he knew he knew about books.

"Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores" (Bradbury 79).

Faber said this quote when guy asks him to help him get more people to read books. They think that they could get books to fire stations so that they could burn them down,or they could get a friend who has a printer to help print more books by copying the ones they have. It helps create trust between the two people so that they know they can trust each other. He also proves that he is on his side by reading the bible and bringing it to him.

Foreshadowing is an indication of a future event, which bradbury uses alot in this book. One example of when he used foreshadowing was when the narrator said " He stood looking at the ventilator grill in the hall and suddenly remembered that something lay hidden behind the grill." He is referreing to the books he has stoared in there. This happend after clarisse asked him is he was truly happy.

"What-the smell of kerosene?...You never wash it off completely" (Bradbury 6).

Guy Montag said this quote on page 4. During this scene he was talking to clarisse, his new neigbor who just moved in nextdoor. This quote signifies how you carry what you do in the past, like for guy, watching the woman burn in the fire, but when he saidb this, he was talking about how his wife complains about the smell of it. This shows who he is and his job. He is used to this smell, whcih means he is also used to doing his job, buring books, until his perspective changes.

Montag reads The Sea of Faith, and the women are offended and want to leave after he read it. Mildred says that firemen are aloud to books home and read them to get it out of their system. The women leave and this meant that they could turn in Montag for reading books.

Montag said this quote when he told mildred that he had many books stored and wanted to read them at least once. He realized when reading books you need to start at the beginning of the book, and it is also the start of his new journeyof happiness.

Montag said this quote, and talks about how the society was built to make people have false happiness. This is why people like Mildred try to overdose countless times. Guy comes to him with no one left to talk to as Clarisse is "dead", and Mildred will not listen to him. This shows that Guy trusts Faber enough and vise versa so that either will not turn the other in.

One allusion in part 2 is when the jets fly over the house. This resembles when bradbury wrote this book, world war 2 was going on, or just ended. This could be referring to thinking that world war 3 would be going on during this time. Another allusion in part 2 is in one of the lines montag refers to the cheshire cat from alice in wonderland. Montag makes many referen ces to books, and resembles Beatty's similar way of quoting famous books.

One character and event which describes how this novel is an allegory for censorship is The Khattam-Shud when he makes the law of silence, which blocks learning to the community and makes the community less intelligent. The 2 cities are blocked off from each other and Gup tries to save the sea of stories and the Chup's try to destroy or censor it. Another allegory for censorship is the purpose of the novel and why it was written, the story of Rushdie and his son to explain the story, but exclude the harsh reality. Like in the story when the Chips try to ruin and pollute the sea of stories to block the knowledge.

The novel is an example of a happy ending due to many reasons. One of them being Harouns mom came back and his family is together and Rashid got his story's back and can tell stories again, and then tells the story of haroun's story and spread it on, making the story end happily as a close nit family. And another reason is the Khattam-Shud is defeated and the waters are not polluted anymore, making everyone happy again.

The speaker is Soraya, Haroun's mother. This was said at the end of the novel when Soraya was complaining about Mr sengupta, as the irony of their relationship. She ran away with him, and then came back complaining about him and regret running away with him. The importance to this quote is a realization or irony of realizing how bad of a person mr sengupta is, and how he is related in a sese to the Khattam-Shud.

The importance of this is that it shows what shadows can do, and when they are pulled apart it affects them and the weakness of being apart from your shadow.
