Describe one specific way that when a religion diffuses to a new area, it can change the cultural landscape.
During the Imperialism time period or 17th century many countries in Europe were looking to expand their power and were searching for resources. More specifically, the British Empire was beginning to colonize South Africa. Through relocation diffusion which was the missionaries sent by the British to colonize Africa, who were responsible for migrating to Africa and spreading their religious beliefs, Christianity. This diffusion of religion to South Africa impacted the cultural landscape in many ways. For example, as the missionaries moved into Africa they began to build churches and set up school and governments that went along with their beliefs. These religious structures changed the landscape that was previously existent. In addition, Africa was left divided and by the late 19th century boundaries and borders were created.

Hierarchical diffusion helped to spread christanity as the rulers of many countries forced Christiantiy upon their subjects. For example, England has always been a predominantly Christian country as the King or Queen of England represents the Prodestand church. During the colonization of the British Empire, England spread Christianity across many countries in Africa and Asia as they brought their beliefs with them and colonized each country.

Describe how relocation diffusion explains the spread of either Hinduism or Judaism.
Judaism has spread through relocation diffusion as the Jewsih religion can be seen any many major cities around the world and Israel. Since Judaism is an ethnic religion it does not seek adherents, therefore it does not diffuse on a large scale like Christianity and Islam. The largest population of adherents is found in Israel because it originated in Israel and their holy sites can be found there. People choose to stay within the country, therefore containing the majority of the population in Israel. In the end, the only way that the Jewish religion is spread is through the migration or relocation diffusion as it only moves with people.

The concept of cultural landscape refers to a combination of cultural features in a region such as language, religion, food, economic features, and physical features. Cultural landscape is becoming more and more homogeneous and globalization begins to take effect in the world by making it easier and more efficient to communicate and ship goods . Across the world, the cultural landscape is shaped by religion in many different ways. In india, a central location within its community are the temples or prayer shrines in which they worship their Gods. In Southern Africa, on the other hand, there are Christian churches throughout the landscape because the dominant religion is Christian.
Describe the ways universalizing and ethnic religions differ.
Universalizing religions are spread across their world as they seek followers in many countries on a global scale.Of the five main world religions, Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism are all universalizing as they have many followers across the world. On the other hand, while they do not decline followers, ethnic religions do not look to widen the location of their religion and are often times located mainly in one or two countries. Judaism and Hinduism are both ethnic religions as they are primarily maintained in Israel for Judaism and India for Hindus.In the end, Universalizing religions tend to have more followers and are recognized as a major dominant religion in many countries across the globe while ethinc religions have usually smaller population within one country.
