reactive language

Making and keeping commitments

At the very heart of our circle of influence is the ability to make or keep commitments and promises. The commitments we make to ourselves and to others and our integrity. it is also the essence of our growth.

In fact, our most difficult experiences become the crucibles that forge our character and develop the internal powers, the freedom to handle difficult circumstances in the future to inspire to do so as well.

In the great literature of all progressive societies, love is a verb. Reactive people make it a feeling. Proactive people make love a verb. Love is something you do: the sacrifices you make, the giving of self, like a mother bringing a newborn into the world.

Proactivity

Means that as human beings we are responsible for our own lives. Our behavior is a function of our decisions not our conditions. We can subordinate feelings to values. We have the initiative and the responsibility to make things happen.

Issues Associated with government licensing of IT professionals

No administrative body to accredit professional education programs.

Duty of care (Mal practice)

Obligation to protect people against any unreasonable harm or risk. Failure results in breach of the Duty of Care

direct, indirect and no control

Problems we face fall in one of three areas:

malpractice

Pros who breach the duty of care a re liable for injuries tha their negligence causes.

Code of Ethics Compliance

Requires an individual to behave in accordance with legislation.

Inappropriate sharing of information

Violation of someones privacy. Potential company info could fall into wrong hands of competitors.

Circle of Concern

We each have a wide range of concerns our health, our children, etc. We could separate those from things in which we have no particular mental or emotional involvement by creating this circle.

The other end of the stick

While we are free to choose our actions, we are not free to choose the consequences of those actions.

It Professionals

Work is not standardized in relation to a given period of time.

We have a conscience

a deep inner awareness of right and wrong, of the principles that govern our behaviour and a sense of the degree to which our thoughts and actions are in harmony with them.

It's the nature of reactive people to

basically says your parents did it to you.

Bribery U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices act

crime to bribe a foreign official, a foreign political party official, or a candidate for foreign political office.

The term 'IT User'

distinguishes the person who uses a hardware software product from the IT workers who develop, install, service, and support the product.

Whistle-blowing

effort by an employee to attract attention to a negligent, illegal unethical or abusive act by a company that threatens the public interest without fear of retaliation

Reactive people

focus their efforts in the circle of influence. They focus on the weakness of other people, the problems in the environment and circumstances over which they have no control.

Listening to our language

for example, is a very real indicator of the degree to which we see ourselves as proactive people. The language of reactive people absolves them of responsibility

Consequences are

governed by natural law. They are out in the circle of influence. We can decide to step in front of a fast moving train but we cannot decide what will happen when the train hits us.

Serious problem with reactive language

it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. People become reinforced in the paradigm that they are determined and they produce evidence to support the belief.

As we look at the circle of concern...

it becomes apparent that there are some things over which we have no real control and others that we can do something about. We could identify those concerns in the latter group by circumscribing them withing a smaller circle of influence. Identify those concerns in the latter group.

impact of professional organizations on ethical behavior

no universal code of ethics for IT Professionals. no single organization has emerged for this.

IT pros

not recognized as professionals. Not licensed by the state or federal government. Not responsible for malpractice.

Fraud

obtaining goods, services, or property through deception. Fraud is proven in court.

problems involving other peoples behavior

problems we can do nothing about such as our past or situational realities.

The proactive approach

puts the first step in the solution of all three kinds of problems within our present Circle of Influence.

We have imagination

the ability to create in our minds beyond our present reality.

Self Awareness

the ability to think about your very thought process. This is the reason why man has dominion over all things in the world and why he can make significant advances from generation.

Proactive people focus their efforts in the circle of influence and

they work on the things they can do something about. Te nature of their energy is positive, enlarging and magnifying, causing their circle of influence.

trade group that represents the worlds largest software and hardware manufacturers

Environmental determinisn

your boss is doing it to you or your spouse. Someone or something in your environment is responsible for your situation.

Genetic Determinism

your grandparents did it to you. Goes through the generations
