hormones that influence blood pressure
Epinephrine and (6) norepinephrine effects
- highly tied to "fight or flight" - most blood vessels bind to alpha-adrenergic receptors(vasoconstrictors- BP increases) - skeletal and cardiac muscles bind to beta-adrenergic receptors(vasodilators- decreases blood pressure)
Atrial natriuretic peptide
- increases urinary sodium excretion - lowers blood pressure by increasing sodium excretion - when the heart it stressed it makes this to relax
antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
- promotes water retention by the kidneys -vasocontrictor - at pathologically high concentrations
Aldosterone
-"salt-retaining hormone" - promotes sodium and water retention by the kidneys - increases blood volume thus increasing blood pressure - saves sodium rather that expelling it through urination
Angiotensin II
-increases blood pressure by constricting blood vessels - promotes sodium and water retention by the kidneys(antidiuretic) -increases blood volume and pressure
