- Don't take action on a strong feeling until you have thoroughly considered the possible consequences of your action. - Use positive feelings to inspire yourself. Relieve negative or upsetting feelings by engaging in physical activities. - Consider whether or not the situation to which you are reacting will matter tomorrow, next week, or next year.
Pg 194 10) Why is it harmful to feel hostile often?
Hostility is the intentional use of unfriendly or offensive behavior. It is harmful to feel hostile often because people who behave this way are more likely to die of heart disease than those who are not prone to hostility.
5) Explaining. Describe the results that may occur when you take time to reflect before responding to a strong emotion.
The results that may occur include you making a correct decision to do something that will not have a negative affect on your future. By reflecting on the strong emotion, you are able to think about the consequences and be able to react in a positive way.
12) Identify two strategies for dealing with guilt.
When you feel guilty about something, try to get at the underlying source and address that issue. Learn from your experience and resolve to be more careful and responsible in the future. Additionally discussing the situation with family or friends can also help make you feel better.
Pg 187 2) Define empathy. How can a person demostrate empathy toward others?
Empathy is the ability to imagine and understand how someone else feels. A person demonstrates empathy towards others by how they are able to connect their feelings. A person who is empathetic listens and communicates with others respectfully. They are able to build and maintain their relationships.
11) What are some ways of managing strong emotions?
People can manage their strong emotions by learning strategies for solving interpersonal conflicts without harming yourself and others. You can also recognize your feeling and manage it by taking slow, deep, breaths and relaxing. You can also control your feelings by analyzing the situations that cause them.
