Tell me about a time you had a difficult situation. Discussed a time you worked with a difficult customer.

-Elderly patient calling about Rx -Couldn't find the Rx she was calling about -She hung up on me before I could get the pharmacist or other tech to help. -Looked through her profile with the pharmacist -She was inquiring about the wrong medication -called her back and apologized for the miscommunication -verified the medication with her, and confirmed it was ready **What kind of difficult situations might an intern find themselves in here?

Tell us about yourself. Can you share a little about your background?

-First year pharmacy student at UM -Shadowed then was hired as a tech in training for a year and a half -Spent over a decade working in research labs as a grad student, technician or undergrad -P1 representative on the curriculum committee -periodically volunteer as a science fair judge -thrilled when you called

-I am a dedicated, and hardworking student as demonstrated by my academic accomplishments. -I am very outgoing, and rarely struggle with talking to new people -Coming from a family of medical professionals, I've interacted with their friends and colleagues over the years. And now I'm eager to work along side them. -Nontrad student, years of life experience have allowed me to mature and become a responsible person -Nearly a decade of biochemical research and graduate level classes

Tell us about your pharmacy experience. What was it like working at Mission Drug?

Amazing experience! Worked closely with the owner who became my mentor, and helped me realize that pharmacy was right path for me. -Technician in training at Mission Drug -Prepared and dispensed drugs -provided customer service -Literature research of newer drugs -Regularly communicated with insurance companies and healthcare providers -Helped to order and maintain drug inventory

Why are you interested in this position?

I have heard amazing things about the intern program from both students and faculty. I am eager to begin practicing what we are learning in classes. I learn and retain much more when I can apply things to real life situations.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Where do you see your self in 10 years? What are your career goals? What are your long term career goals?

I will have been graduated for 1.5 years. Either doing a second year of residency if I find a field I would like to specialize in, or working in a small hospital or clinic. Eventually I would like to return to academia a faculty in a pharmacy school, and use my experience to mentor aspiring new pharmacists, and help current pharmacists spans or continue there education

What are you most proud of and why?

Japan experience

What do you think will be most challenging for you in this position and how will you handle this?

Learning all of the drugs We have access to various references, knowing which are reputable and where to find the answers

How do you handle stressful situations? How do you handle stress? What overwhelms you and why?

Like everyone, I have found myself in situations -Most important is recognizing when I'm in over my head -I take a step back to relax and breathe so that I am able to think things through more clearly -Continue on knowing I'll get through it What kinds of stressful situations do the interns here find themselves in?

Tell me about a time when you disagreed with a supervisor or colleague.

Thesis advisor -Deciding when enough was enough towards my dissertation -I had completed two NMR structures, which she was happy with, but a new program came out to analyze the dihedral angles, re-run structure calculations, re-evaluate distance violations -It was always one more thing, try it one more way. -Committee felt what I had done was sufficient, so she and I sat down to talk. -If I'm to ever be done, we need to set a distinct end point -Together we came up with a plan -Have since got one paper published, are close to finished on the 2nd, and I'm tying together some loose ends that may be enough for a 3rd, if not just the last section of dissertation
