Administrative Management Domain (ADMD)

-An internet e-mail provider. -Examples include a department that operates a local mail relay.

radix-64

-Base64 is a group of similar binary-to-text encoding schemes that represent binary data in an ASCII string format by translating it into a radix-64 representation.

IPv6

-Internet Protocol version 6, IPv6 An extended scheme of IP addresses, using 128-bit IP addresses, that allows for more IP addresses than current system, IPv4, which uses 32-bit IP addresses.

S/MIME

-Is a standard for public key encryption and signing of MIME data. S/MIME is on an IETF standards track and defined in a number of documents, most importantly RFCs 3369, 3370, 3850 and 3851.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

-Is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client—typically a web server (website) and a browser; or a mail server and a mail client

Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME)

-Provides a number of new header fields that define information about the body of the message. -Including the format of the body and any encoding that is done to facilitate transfer. (Base64) -Extends emails to format text, image, audio, and video.

DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM)

-Provides an e-mail authentication technique that is transparent to the end user. -The users message is signed by a private key of the administrative domain from which the email originates. -Helps weed out spam.

HTTPS

-hypertext transfer protocol that is sent over the secure sockets layer. Uses symmetric algorithm to encrypts with server private key, and decrypts with the public key it generated.

Domain Name System (DNS)

-is a directory lookup service that provides a maping between the name of a host on the internet and its numerical address.

IPsec

-is a protocol suite for secure Internet Protocol (IP) communications by authenticating and encrypting each IP packet of a communication session.

Transport Layer Security (TLS)

-is a protocol that ensures privacy between communicating applications and their users on the Internet. -When a server and client communicate, TLS ensures that no third party may eavesdrop or tamper with any message. -TLS is the successor to the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP)

-provides authentication, integrity, and confidentiality, which protect against data tampering and, most importantly, provide message content protection.

IPv4

-used to to identify devices on a network through an addressing system. -32 bit numbers= 4 billion addresses -2^32 -4 sets of numbers marked off by periods.
